Types of studies and research design

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2016
Medical research has evolved, from individual expert described opinions and techniques, to scientifically designed methodology-based studies. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) was established to re-evaluate medical facts and remove various myths in clinical practice. Research methodology is now protocol based with predefined steps.

What Are the Types of Study Design? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
AbstractThe quality, reliability, dependability, and publishability of a study depend on its design. A clinical study design includes the preparation of trials, ]experiments, and observations in research involving human beings. The various types of study designs are depicted in Fig. 8.1.

Speciation Through the Lens of Population Dynamics: A Theoretical Primer on How Small and Large Populations Diverge

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Population size and dynamics fundamentally shape speciation by influencing genetic drift, founder events, and adaptive potential. Small populations may speciate rapidly due to stronger drift, whereas large populations harbor more genetic diversity, which can alter divergence trajectories. We highlight theoretical models that incorporate population size

An investigation of Bhattacharya-type designs

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 1971
AbstractQuasi-residual designs are balanced incomplete block designs having the parameters of a residual BIBD. For λ = 1 or 2 all quasi-residual designs are also residual designs, but a single counterexample due to Bhattacharya for the design (16, 24, 9, 6, 3) shows this not to be the case for λ = 3.

Interleavers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The chapter describes principles, analysis, design, properties, and implementations of optical frequency (or wavelength) interleavers. The emphasis is on finite impulse response devices based on cascaded Mach-Zehnder-type filter elements with carefully ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Types of Mimetics for the Design of Intelligent Technologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mimetic design means using a source in the natural or artificial worlds as an inspiration for technological solutions. It is based around the abstraction of the relevant operating principles in a source domain. This means that one must be able to identify the correct level of analysis and extract the relevant patterns.
