Typhoon disasters have caused casualties, property loss, and other negative impacts to social and economic development. Vulnerability is an important component of typhoon risk. However, little is known about the contributions of vulnerability factors and their interaction effects on typhoon-induced losses at a fine scale.

The effect of typhoon-induced SST cooling on typhoon intensity: The case of Typhoon Chanchu (2006)
Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, 2008In order to investigate air-sea interactions during the life cycle of typhoons and the quantificational effects of typhoon-induced SST cooling on typhoon intensity, a mesoscale coupled air-sea model is developed based on the non-hydrostatic mesoscale model MM5 and the regional ocean model POM, which is used to simulate the life cycle of Typhoon Chanchu

Unexpected meteotsunamis prior to Typhoon Wipha and Typhoon Neoguri
Natural Hazards, 2020Two meteotsunamis were unexpectedly observed along the eastern coast of Japan coincidentally with atmospheric pressure disturbances prior to two typhoons, respectively. The maximum wave height of meteotsunamis was up to ~ 0.5 m in Aburatsubo Bay with the pressure fluctuation of ~ 2 hPa before Typhoon Wipha.
