Social Organisation Predicts Lifespan in Mammals
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.Using Bayesian phylogenetic analyses of 1436 mammal species, we show that pair‐living and group‐living species have longer maximum lifespans than solitary species after accounting for body mass and phylogeny. Differences between pair‐ and group‐living species were small, and activity period showed weak associations.
