Designing and modeling U-notch fatigue sensor to predict the fatigue life of structural components [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2019
Fatigue sensors are used as Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) mechanisms to detect damage on structural components before any failures occur. In this study, a U-notched fatigue sensor was designed and analyzed to predict the fatigue life before ...

CADASIL – rola systemu sygnałowego Notch 3 w patomechanizmie choroby [PDF]

Mode I fatigue limit of V- and U-notches

open access: yesProcedia Structural Integrity, 2020
Abstract The fatigue limit of structures containing V- and U-notches is assessed through the coupled stress-energy criterion of Finite Fracture Mechanics (FFM). The analysis is limited to mode I loading conditions. The FFM criterion is a critical-distance-based approach whose implementation requires the knowledge of two material properties, namely ...

Assessment of Transfer Learning Capabilities for Fatigue Damage Classification and Detection in Aluminum Specimens with Different Notch Geometries

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Fatigue damage detection and its classification in metallic materials are persistently challenging the structural health monitoring community. The mechanics of fatigue damage is difficult to analyze and is further complicated because of the presence of ...

Study of Secondary Effects of Fatigue Cracks in Cross Partitions of Steel Plate Reinforced Steel Box Girders

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In order to investigate the effect of optimized reinforcement of cross-section of steel box girders with fatigue cracks on other vulnerable parts (cross-section, U-rib and deck slab, etc.) under wheel load, and to reveal the stress distribution law of ...

Experimental Investigation of Fracture Performances of SBHS500, SM570 and SM490 Steel Specimens with Notches

open access: yesMetals, 2022
High-strength steels (HSSs) with nominal yield stress not less than 460 MPa have been increasingly employed in bridge structures. Compared with SM490 normal-strength steel (NSS), HSSs, including SBHS500 and SM570, have higher strength but lower ductility,

Fatigue Failure Prediction of U-Notched ZK60 Magnesium Samples Using the Strain Energy Density Approach

open access: yesMetals, 2021
The light weight of magnesium alloys makes them a promising material in different potential industries, such as aerospace and automobile. In addition, magnesium alloys are attractive materials for biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility ...

A Finite Fracture Mechanics approach to the asymptotic behaviour of U‐notched structures [PDF]

open access: yesFatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2012
ABSTRACTA Finite Fracture Mechanics (FFM) criterion is formalized to predict the critical failure loads of brittle U‐notched specimens, subjected to mode I loading. The criterion, recently applied to V‐notched structures, requires the contemporaneous fulfilment of stress requirements and energy conditions for fracture to propagate: the stress field ...

The Effect of the Intercondylar Notch Shape and Notch Width Index on Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Health Research Council, 2020
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament is one of the commonly injured ligaments in knee. The shape and dimension of the femoral notch has been linked with the risk of anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Analysis of Notch Effect in 3D-Printed ABS Fracture Specimens Containing U-Notches [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
In this paper a fracture assessment in additive manufactured acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) fracture specimens containing U-notches is performed. We performed 33 fracture tests and 9 tensile tests, combining five different notch radii (0 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 1 mm and 2 mm) and three different raster orientations: 0/90, 30/−60 and 45/−45.
