Prediction on fatigue life of U‐notched PMMA plate
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2016AbstractIn this paper, fatigue life prediction of U‐notched polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) plate is numerically investigated based on the combination of fatigue damage mechanism and fatigue crack propagation mechanism. First, strength and stiffness degeneration criterions during the fatigue process are established on the basis of nonlinear progressive ...

The acoustics of cavitation in spool valve with U-notches
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2011Spiral cavity produced by the swirling flow is observed in spool valve with U-notches. Individual bubbles with similar grown-up size appear in the wake of the fixed cavity. Consecutive bubble collapse produces frequency peak in the spectra, which decreases with the cavitation number.

Geometry effects on mode I brittle fracture in U‐notched specimens
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2020AbstractThe effects of geometrical constraints on the fracture initiation location and the fracture strength are evaluated in U‐notched specimens using theoretical and experimental analyses. It is proven that high geometrical constraints in pure mode I loading of geometrically symmetric U‐notched specimens can result in occurrence of the maximum ...

Plastic instability in U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AIS11090 steel
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1982Studies on U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1090 steel revealed that plastic instability initiated as a surface roughening in the notch root. The surface waviness preceded subsurface void formation and appeared at a strain in fair agreement with predictions from plasticity theory.

Fracture Assessment of U-Notched Graphite Plates Under Tension
International Journal of Fracture, 2013The experimentally obtained tensile load-bearing capacity of fifteen U-notched polycrystalline graphite plates reported in literature was theoretically estimated by means of two well-known brittle fracture models, namely the mean stress (MS) and the point stress (PS) criteria.

Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Analysis of Isotropic Plates With U-Notches
Reliability, Stress Analysis, and Failure Prevention Issues in Fastening and Joining, Composite and Smart Structures, Numerical and FEA Methods, and Risk Minimization, 1996Abstract Elasto-plastic stress analysis of the U-notched isotropic steel plates (SAE 1060) has been carried out using the finite element method (FEM) Isoparametric rectangular elements with four nodes have been employed and the Lagrange polynomial has been used as interpolation function Mechanical properties and yield strength of the U ...

The effective T-stress estimation and crack paths emanating from U-notches
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2010The concept of the T-stress as a local constraint factor has been extended to U-notch tip stress distribution as the effective T-stress. The effective T-stress has been estimated as the average value of the T-stress in the region corresponding to the effective (characteristic) distance ahead of the notch tip. The T-stress is evaluated by finite element

Ductile fracture of U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1095 steel
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1978Ductile fracture was studied in U-notched, bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1095 steel. The role of microstructure in void initiation and growth was investigated. The stress and strain states were controlled by varying the acuity of the notch and the bending load.
