A Novel Green Method for Producing Medical‐Grade Chitosan From Loligo plei Squid Pens

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a sustainable and simplified process for the production of medical‐grade chitosan from the feathers of the squid Loligo plei, employing mild chemical treatments to preserve the integrity of the polymer while achieving high purity and performance.

When do we need pan-global freeze to explain ^(18)O-depleted zircons and rocks? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Rocks with δ^(18)O values of less than 5‰ SMOW (Standard Mean Ocean Water) contain oxygen derived from ∼0‰ seawater or meteoric (rain or melted snow,

Comparative Meta‐Analysis of Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquatic and Terrestrial Livestock Species

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A global meta‐analysis of 58 studies (926 effect sizes and 29 species across five taxa) revealed that dietary antimicrobial peptides generally improve growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune responses. The greatest benefits were observed in omnivorous livestock, such as pigs and chickens. Dose‐duration effects were evident. An optimal outcome

Data on recovery rates and external morphologies of zircon grains from mechanical and electrical pulverization of rock samples

open access: yesData in Brief, 2018
In this data article, we provide information on the recovery rate and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the external morphology of zircon grains separated from two rock samples (AS3 and TEMORA 2) using both mechanical and electrical ...

Extent and toxicity of contaminated marine sediments in Southeastern Florida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Thirty sites were sampled in southern Biscayne Bay and Manatee Bay in December 1999 to determine the extent of toxicity in sediments. Analyses and assays included: pesticides and phenols in seawater; chemical contaminants in sediment; amphipod mortality,

SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating for two episodes of migmatization in the Dabie orogen

open access: yesChinese Science Bulletin, 2007
Zircon CL imaging and SHRIMP U-Pb dating were carried out for migmatite in the Dabie orogen. Zircons from the Manshuihe migmatite show clear core-rim structures. The cores display sector or weak zoning and low Th/U ratios of 0.01 to 0.17, indicating their precipitation from metamorphic fluid. They yield a weighted mean age of 137±5 Ma. By contrast, the

Investigating the Heat Stability and Inactivation Conditions of Decapod Iridescent Virus 1 (DIV1)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat treatment effectively inactivates decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1) under milder conditions than current WOAH recommendations. DIV1 infectivity was eliminated at 56°C for 30 min, 60°C for 15 min, or 70°C for 1 min, providing optimized heat treatment strategies for aquaculture biosecurity and seafood safety.

Late Miocene magmatic activity in the Attic-Cycladic Belt of the Aegean (Lavrion, SE Attica, Greece): implications for the geodynamic evolution and timing of ore deposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Numerous post-metamorphic Miocene granitoids occur in the area of Lavrion, SE Attica, at the western end of the Attic-Cycladic Belt of the Aegean. U-Pb ion microprobe-dating (SHRIMP) of zircon from a granitoid sill in the hanging-wall of a regional ...

Zircon ages in granulite facies rocks: decoupling from geochemistry above 850 °C? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Granulite facies rocks frequently show a large spread in their zircon ages, the interpretation of which raises questions: Has the isotopic system been disturbed? By what process(es) and conditions did the alteration occur?

Combined U-Pb SHRIMP and Hf isotope study of the Late Paleozoic Yaminué Complex, Rio Negro Province, Argentina : implications for the origin and evolution of the Patagonia composite terrane

open access: yes, 2013
We have carried out zircon U-Pb SHRIMP dating and Hf isotope determinations on a biotite paraschist and on a tonalitic orthogneiss of the Yaminue Complex, and re-evaluate this complex in the broader context of the tectonic evolution of the Patagonia ...
