Determination of the Optimum U-Values for the Building Envelope

Architectural Science Review, 1992
The limit values of the overall heat transfer coefficient for opaque components of building envelope, which are determined by the energy conservation regulations or standards, are independent from orientation and also from dimensions of opaque and transparent components of the envelope. However, these parameters significantly effect the thermal comfort

Dynamic U-value estimation and energy simulation for green roofs

Energy and Buildings, 2012
Abstract Green roofs cooling and thermal insulating features have been demonstrated in many research projects. However, all efforts mostly have assessed green roof thermal properties under steady state conditions or by computational modeling. The present study evaluated green roof thermal performance in terms of the thermal transmittance coefficient,

Estimation of U-value of traditional North African houses

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2011
Abstract The heat transfer and the U -values of wall layers in traditional North African houses in Libya have been estimated. The locally produced building materials during 1970’s were used in the construction of such buildings. These materials were limited to bricks, tiles, cement plasters, mortar and ground soils without any insulation components.

U-values of uninsulated ground floors: Relationship with floor dimensions

Building Services Engineering Research and Technology, 1991
The paper examines the calculation of U-values of uninsulated ground floors, and proposes a method based on the area and perimeter of the floor. The method gives values consistent with the procedure in the current CIBSE Guide and is a more flexible alternative, especially for irregular shapes of floor.

Automatic U-value measurement by local thermographic analysis

2010
The measurement of U-value is an important issue for energy budget evaluation, but conventional techniques are not satisfactory. To date, IR thermography has barely been used for a qualitative measurement or to support other standardized measuring. The proposed method is able to very accurately detect the temperature difference between the air and a ...

Thermal Behaviours of BIPV-Modules (U-Value and g-Value)

2011
With respect to higher operating temperature of BIPV, changes of the thermal characteristics have to be taken into account. The relevant building functions have been investigated under consideration of PVspecific characteristics compared to conventional building products; heat transmission coefficient (U-value), solar heat gain (g-value) and solar ...

U-values, optical and thermal coefficients of composite glass systems

Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 1998
Abstract This paper presents a different approach for thermal effective windows, i.e. windows which reduce energy transmitted into or out of the room. The idea is to use a double-sealed glass filled with pcm whose fusion temperature is determined by solar-thermal calculations. The investigation is divided into two main parts: modeling of the heat and
