The state of knowledge on the microbiological aspects of granular methanogenic sludge in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors is reviewed. Granular methanogenic sludge has been observed in a variety of upflow reactors, which is in agreement with the hypothesis that these systems select for well settling sludges. In methanogenic UASB reactors

This study evaluated the effects of pyrolytic biochars derived from co‐pyrolyzed sewage sludge and cashew residues on total organic carbon (TOC) recovery and CO2 emissions in degraded soils under greenhouse conditions. Biochar applications (5 to 40 Mg ha−1) enhanced soil carbon stocks and variably influenced CO2 fluxes over time.

Quantitative Detection of Syntrophic Fatty Acid-degrading Bacterial Communities in Methanogenic Environments [PDF]
In methanogenic habitats, volatile fatty acids (VFA), such as propionate and butyrate, are major intermediates in organic matter degradation. VFA are further metabolized to H2, acetate and CO2 by syntrophic fatty acid-degrading bacteria (SFAB) in ...

Strobilanthes sharavathiensis, a newly discovered species from the high‐altitude shola grasslands of the Sharavathi river basin in the central Western Ghats, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, this species is closely allied to Strobilanthes jomyi, particularly in its pendulous spike inflorescence, exerted stamens and glandular hairs near ...
