Effect of a pre-milking teat foam and a liner disinfectant on the presence of mesophilic and (proteolytic) psychrotrophic bacteria prior to milking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Contamination of raw milk by psychrotrophs can lead to the production of heat-resistant proteases and subsequent spoilage of UHT milk. Therefore, this research communication evaluated the effect of a pre-milking teat disinfectant (active components: L-(+)

Associations of Subjective Udder Edema Scores and Descriptive Trait Codes for Udder Types

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1984
Edema severity was scored by herd personnel in six North Carolina Holstein herds from 1 (none) to 5 (extremely severe). Cows (2612) were scored at calving and 1 and 2 wk postpartum. Total score was calculated as the sum of these three scores. Official Holstein-Friesian classification descriptive udder trait codes were available on a subset of the cows.

Loop‐Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) Assay for the Detection of Bacterial Bovine Mastitis: A Systematic Review

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Loop‐mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a quick, cost‐effective molecular technique for detecting bacterial pathogens causing bovine mastitis. This review summarises 18 LAMP assays developed for key bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus uberis and Escherichia coli.

Oral supplementation of medium-chain fatty acids during the dry period supports the neutrophil viability of peripartum dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A randomised clinical trial was conducted to explore the effect of orally supplemented medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) to heifers and cows starting 6-8 weeks prior to expected calving date on blood and milk polymorphonuclear neutrophilic leucocyte (PMNL)

Estimation of Genetic and Phenotypic Parameters for Udder Morphology Traits in Different Dairy Sheep Genotypes

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2017
Knowledge of genetic parameters is the basis of sound livestock improvement programmes. Genetic parameters have been estimated for linear udder traits: Udder depth (UD), Cistern depth (CD), Teat position (TP), Teat size (TS) and external udder ...
