Improvement of storage stability of UF resins by adding caprolactam

International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2019
Abstract During storage, the structure of urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins suffers modifications due to reactions between monomers, oligomers, polymer and free formaldehyde, leading to increase in viscosity and decrease in pH. Eventually, viscosity reaches a value that renders the resin unusable, and it must be disposed off.

A Study on Modification Technology of Poplarthrough Impregnating with UF Resin

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Through impregnating with UF resin, the modification technology of Poplar was experimented and studied. The study results proved that the laminated veneer lumber (LVL), impregnated with UF resin, reached fine quality when the bumping vacuum time, the solid content of UF resin, the impregnation temperature and time were respectively 40min, 30%, 25-30°C ...

Qualitative analysis of pre-curing process of UF resin

Thermochimica Acta, 2017
Abstract The rheological behavior, molecular weight distribution (MWD), reactivity, and chemical structures of UF resin during the pre-curing process were elucidated by rheometry, gel permeation chromatograph (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 13C NMR, respectively.

DSC characterisation of urea‐formaldehyde (UF) resin curing

Pigment & Resin Technology, 2009
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of various catalyst contents, resin solid contents, catalyst species and wood extract on urea‐formaldehyde (UF) curing by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique. The finding obtained would benefit the manufacturers of UF‐bonded composite panels.Design/methodology/approachThe UF ...

The curing of UF resins studied by low-resolution1H-NMR

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2000
A series of UF resins and one MUF resin were studied by low-resolution 1 H-NMR. The mobility of the resin during curing could be followed by measuring the spin-spin relaxation time (T 2 ) with curing time. The relative curing behavior was similar to that found by traditional gel time measurements.

Visualisation of UF resin in MDF by cathodoluminescence/ scanning electron microscopy

Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 2001
A new method to visualise and quantify urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin on fibre in MDF panels has been achieved by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after doping the resin with a cathodoluminescent label.

Preparation of the Plywood Using UF Resin Modified with Blocked Isocyanates

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
The plywood was prepared using the UF resin modified with isocyanate blocked by sodium bisulfate in this paper. And the effects of the ratio of UF resin and blocked isocyanate, hybrid method and the additive on the properties of the plywood were also studied.

The interactions between wax and UF resin in medium density fibreboard

European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2011
Through the use of fluorescently labelled paraffin wax and UF resin, fluorescence microscopy has been used to simultaneously visualise wax and resin components on medium density fibreboard (MDF) fibre. To simulate differing application methods, the wax and resin were applied to fibre either separately or as a mixture.

Urea–formaldehyde (UF) adhesive resins for wood

International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 1998
Abstract Urea–formaldehyde (UF) resins are the most important type of adhesive resins for the production of wood based panels. They convince by their high reactivity and good performance in the production and by their low price, however they lack in water resistance of the hardened resin owing to the reversibility of the aminomethylene link and hence

Preparation of Moistureproof Particleboards Using Modified UF Resin with Melanine

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
The paper adopted a direct approach of putting melamine inside to modify the UF resin, tested the physical properties of UF adhesive and used DSC method to study the solidifying temperature. The results show that when the molar ratio (F / U) is 1.05 or 1.15 and the addition of melamine is 4% or 8%, the viscosity, solidifying temperature, solidifying ...
