Forest Age and Soil Depth Mediate the Effects of Soil and Root Traits on Soil Microbial Community in Plantations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
We determined the soil properties, root traits, and microbial community in two soil depths in Populus tomentosa, Platycladus orientalis, and Styphnolobium japonicum plantations with different forest ages and found that: (1) The influence of soil properties and root traits on the composition of soil bacteria was greater than that of fungi.

Beauty Food Activities of Isolated Phenolic Compounds from Ulmus pumila [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Biological Chemistry, 2012
Phenolic compounds of 17.9±1.0 mg/g were extracted from Ulmus pumila with 70% ethanol. The elastase inhibitory activity related with forming wrinkle was shown an excellent wrinkle improvement effect in 70% ethanol extracts as 55.5-69.5% at phenolic concentration of 50-200 μg/ml.

Nomenclatural notes on some European elm names (Ulmaceae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 5, Page 1213-1216, October 2025.
Abstract The typification of the elm names Ulmus laevis, U. minor, and U. pumila is discussed. Ulmus laevis is lectotypified on a Pallas illustration published in his Flora Rossica. No original material could be located for U. minor and a neotype is designated (a specimen at SLBI). Ulmus pumila is lectotypified on a specimen in LINN.

Cytotoxic Effects of Mansonone E and F Isolated from Ulmus pumila

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2004
Two sesquiterpenoids, mansonone E (ME) and mansonone F (MF) were first isolated from the dried root bark of Ulmus pumila (shironire in Japanese), and their antiproliferative activities on human tumor cells were evaluated in vitro. ME had more potent cytotoxic effects on four tumor cell lines, human cervical cancer HeLa, human malignant melanoma A375-S2,

Comparing the impacts of patch‐burn grazing on vegetation in two northern tallgrass prairies

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
We evaluated two of the earliest and largest patch‐burn grazing projects in the eastern tallgrass prairie of Minnesota, an ecosystem that has undergone extensive fragmentation and invasion by non‐native species. Our results in grazed and ungrazed plots varied with differences in stocking rate and fire frequency.
