Temperature dependent elastic constants and ultimate strength of graphene and graphyne [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Based on the first principles calculation combined with quasi-harmonic approximation, in this work we focus on the analysis of temperature dependent lattice geometries, thermal expansion coefficients, elastic constants and ultimate strength of graphene and graphyne.

Investigation of the Tensile Properties of High-Strength Bolted Joints in Static Drill Rooted Nodular Piles

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To address the persistence of traditional welded joints in the construction of static drill rooted nodular piles, high-strength bolted connections are introduced.

The Effects of Cupping Therapy on Biomechanical Properties in Wistar Rat Skin

open access: yesمجله پژوهش در علوم توانبخشی, 2013
Introduction: In most Asian countries, cupping therapy has been used as a therapeutic method for soft tissue lesions but there is no high quality evidence-based support for its clinical efficacy. Cupping therapy may have an influence on the biomechanical

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Line defects in Graphene: How doping affects the electronic and mechanical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Graphene and carbon nanotubes have extraordinary mechanical and electronic properties. Intrinsic line defects such as local non-hexagonal reconstructions or grain boundaries, however, significantly reduce the tensile strength, but feature exciting electronic properties.

Machine Learning-Assisted Pattern Recognition Algorithms for Estimating Ultimate Tensile Strength in Fused Deposition Modeled Polylactic Acid Specimens [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In this study, we investigate the application of supervised machine learning algorithms for estimating the Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of Polylactic Acid (PLA) specimens fabricated using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) process. A total of 31 PLA specimens were prepared, with Infill Percentage, Layer Height, Print Speed, and Extrusion ...

Intermetallic Compound Layer Morphology and Distribution in Friction‐Welded Steel–Aluminum Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, how friction‐welding parameters (rotational speed, etc.) affect the morphology, distribution, and local thickness of the intermetallic compound layer (IMC‐layer) in friction‐welded steel‐aluminum hybrid components is investigated. In the results, it is shown that lower speeds (700 rpm) lead to a more uniform, thinner IMC‐layer (<0.5 μm),

Atomic Scale Insights Into The Mechanical Characteristics of Monolayer 1T-Titanium Disulphide: A Molecular Dynamics Study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this work, we report on the mechanical responses and fracture behavior of pristine and defected monolayer 1T-Titanium Disulfide using classical molecular dynamics simulation. We investigated the effect of temperature, strain rate and defect ratio on the uniaxial tensile properties in both armchair and zigzag direction.

Chain Ends and the Ultimate Strength of Polyethylene Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesACS Macro Lett., 2016, 5, pp 263-267, 2015
We use large scale molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to determine the tensile yield mechanism of orthorhombic polyethylene (PE) crystals with finite chains spanning $10^2-10^4$ carbons in length. We find the yield stress $\sigma_y$ saturates for long chains at 6.3 GPa, agreeing well with experiments.
