Novel Optically Generated Ultra Wideband (UWB) Signals

Optical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009
We describe UWB wireless technology and the regulatory environment that imposes severe power constraints on these signals. We explain how optical pulse shaping can achieve impressive gains in power efficiency.

Resolution of ultra-wideband radar signals

IEE Proceedings - Radar, Sonar and Navigation, 1999
The paper considers the range resolution of ultra-wideband signals. The situation of targets, adjacent in range, of significantly different amplitude, as in the case of propagation in lossy media, is examined. Several examples, each taken from three general classes of waveform, are examined.

Timing Ultra-Wideband Signals With Dirty Templates

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2005
Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for indoor wireless communications promises high data rates with low-complexity transceivers. Rapid timing synchronization constitutes a major challenge in realizing these promises. In this paper, we establish a novel synchronization criterion that we term "timing with dirty templates" (TDT), based on which we develop ...

Signal Design for Ultra-wideband Radio

2002
Research in the design of ultra-wideband (UWB) radio systems suggests different kinds of signal design criteria. After an introduction to UWB radio, a variety of sequence design problems, motivated by UWB system constraints, will be presented. Design for time-hopping, for spectral flatness, for rapid acquisition, and for multiple access will be ...

High-Order Signal Processing for Ultra-Wideband Radar Signals

2020
Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar and impulse radar can provide new opportunities for information recovery from radar return signal analysis. If the UWB radar echo signal processing task is converted into a “black-box” system identification problem, then high order signal processing can offer increased performance in terms of characterizing radar returns for ...

Overcomplete dictionary based ultra-wideband signal detection

IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, 2006. WCNC 2006., 2006
Ultra-wideband (UWB) transmission is a promising technology for future high speed wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a novel signal detection approach with noise suppression for UWB systems. This approach is based on an overcomplete dictionary signal representation and a sparsity-driven optimization algorithm.

Ultra wideband signal propagation in desktop environments

IEEE Conference on Ultra Wideband Systems and Technologies, 2003, 2004
Although ultra wideband (UWB) propagation in indoor environments has been intensively studied, there have, as far we know, been no published studies of UWB propagation in desktop environments, where wireless personal area networks are expected to be most commonly employed.

Next generation RFID using ultra-wideband signaling

2012 IEEE International Conference on Wireless Information Technology and Systems (ICWITS), 2012
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a powerful technology for asset monitoring and tracking and has a vast potential to reduce operating costs for many applications. While conventional narrowband RFID systems have successfully been used in several applications, the challenges posed by their signal characteristics has prevented their widespread use

Antenna array synthesis for ultra-wideband signals

2013 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium (APSURSI), 2013
Acquisition of ultra-wideband signals by array antennas requires frequency-invariant radiation characteristics over the bandwidth of the signal in order to minimize distortions. In this study, a new synthesis technique of array antennas for radiating nanosecond pulse signals is presented.

Ultra Wideband Signal Sources for Interference Measurements

2005 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband, 2006
Two prototype ultra wideband (UWB) signal sources using the burst CW concept to generate the UWB pulses have been developed and tested. The sources can be used for testing the possibility of interference to communications equipment by UWB signals. The first source has variable pulse width and pulse repetition frequency as well as a variable centre ...
