Dynamical tunnelling of ultracold atoms
Nature, 2001The divergence of quantum and classical descriptions of particle motion is clearly apparent in quantum tunnelling between two regions of classically stable motion. An archetype of such non-classical motion is tunnelling through an energy barrier. In the 1980s, a new process, 'dynamical' tunnelling, was predicted, involving no potential energy barrier ...

Photoassociation of Ultracold Sodium Atoms
Physica Scripta, 2003Using ultra-cold atoms a new technique of photoassociation spectroscopy has been developed. The technique has an unprecedented resolution and can be used to obtain high-resolution data on singly and doubly excited states of diatomic molecules. We describe the principle of the technique and show results for one specific case, namely the Na2 molecule.

Physical Review A, 2000
Studies of charge transfer and total cross sections in elastic collisions of atom-ion alkali metals at ultralow temperatures are reported. Calculations for Na+Na{sup +} have been carried out with the best available {sup 2}{sigma}{sub g}{sup +} and {sup 2}{sigma}{sub u}{sup +} potential curves.

Dynamical localization of ultracold sodium atoms
Physical Review E, 1999We report a study of atomic motion in time-dependent optical potentials. We measure momentum transfer in parameter regimes for which the classical dynamics are chaotic, and observe the quantum suppression of chaos by dynamical localization. The high degree of control over the experimental parameters enables detailed comparisons with theoretical ...

Optical circuit compactification for ultracold atoms
Review of Scientific InstrumentsWe develop a modular and compactified optical circuit for the generation of optical beams for cooling, imaging, and controlling ultracold atoms. One of the simplifications that is made in our circuit is to admix the repumping beams to each other optical beams in its dedicated single-mode fiber. We implement our design, characterize the output, and show
