An ultrafine- and uniform-grained Zn-0.5Mn alloy (D3 alloy, stands for deformation rate of 99.5%) is fabricated via multi-pass drawing. The alloy features excellent ductility and elongation properties (up to 245.0% ± 9.0% at room temperature).

Diffusion in Ultrafine Grained Materials
Materials Science Forum, 2008The paper provides an overview of recent results of the radiotracer investigations of short-circuit diffusion in ultra fine grained (UFG) materials produced by severe plastic deformation (SPD). Different material classes (copper of different purity levels and Cu alloys) are considered.

Submicrosecond strength of ultrafine-grained materials
Mechanics of Solids, 2010We present the results of measuring the strength properties of metals and alloys with face-centered cubic lattice (copper, aluminum), body-centered cubic structure (Armco iron, tantalum), hexagonal close-packed structure (titanium and titanium alloy BT6) in the original coarse-grained and submicrocrystalline state under shock-wave loading.

Further processing of ultrafine-grain materials
International Journal of Material Forming, 2010Linear flow splitting enables the production of bifurcated profiles out of sheet metal. Included in the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 666 the new roll forming procedure uses obtuse angled splitting rolls and supporting rolls to increase the surface of the band edge. High hydrostatic stresses in the deformed zone lead to an elevated formability of

Ultrafine Grained Material Produced by Machining
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2010The evolution of microstructure of carbon steel subjected to large plastic strain machining was investigated. The microstructure generated in machined chips was ultrafine grains with an average size of 200 nm. A finite element model was established to study large plastic deformation in plain orthogonal cutting.
