Characterisation and Development of Nanostructured, Ultrahigh Strength, and Ductile Bainitic Steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The purpose of the present work was to characterise and further develop a novel nanostructured type of bainitic steel. Three chemical compositions were considered with different concentrations of Al and Co.

Design of Novel Bainitic Steels: Moving from UltraFine to Nanoscale Structures [PDF]

open access: yesJOM, 2014
The concepts of phase transformation theory can be exploited to design nanostructured steels that transform to bainite at temperatures as low as 150°C. The microstructure obtained is so refined that it is possible to achieve strength in excess of 2.5 GPa in a material that has considerable toughness (40 MPam1/2).

Transformation Behavior of Bainite during Two-step Isothermal Process in an Ultrafine Bainite Steel

open access: yesISIJ International, 2018
Four different isothermal treatment processes were designed to investigate the effect of isothermal treatment parameters on the comprehensive property in an ultrafine bainite steel. Four different isothermal treatment processes, including two kinds of one-step bainite transformation procedures at temperature above MS and below MS, respectively, and two

Effect of Carbon in Severe Plastically Deformed Metals

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 22, Issue 12, December 2020., 2020
By adding carbon, the saturation grain size in severe plastically deformed materials can efficiently be reduced. Also, other forms and allotropes of carbon (nanotubes, nanodiamonds, and carbides) allow the generation of significantly finer microstructures.

Intermetallic-strengthened nanocrystalline bainitic steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A new thermally stable, nanocrystalline bainitic steel has been developed, rich in nickel and aluminium. During tempering, it is expected that a significant quantity of intermetallic precipitates will form.

Improving strength, ductility and toughness of ultrafine bainitic steel via tailoring retained austenite and nano-carbide precipitation

open access: yesMetals Advances
Ultrafine bainitic steel exhibits promising applications in bearings, springs, and railway crossings due to its excellent strength-toughness balance and fatigue resistance.

Numerical and experimental study on thermo-mechanical processing of medium-carbon steels at low temperatures for achieving ultrafine-structured bainite

open access: yesMaterialia, 2021
Abstract A combination of experimental and numerical approaches was applied for constructing a dynamic model for thermomechanical processing, which was used for simulating laboratory rolling and cooling, and for designing a cooling path to enable phase transformation from austenite to ultrafine ( ∼ 50–100 nm) bainitic laths.

Hydrogen Permeation in Nanostructured Bainitic Steel

open access: yes, 2016
Hydrogen permeation of nanostructured bainitic steel, produced at two different transformation temperatures, i.e., 473.15 K (200 A degrees C) BS-200 and 623.15 K (350 A degrees C) BS-350, was determined using Devanathan-Stachurski hydrogen permeation ...

Refinement of retained austenite in super-bainitic steel by a deep cryogenic treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The effect of a deep cryogenic treatment on the microstructure of a super-bainitic steel was investigated. It was shown that quenching the super-bainitc steel in –196°C liquid nitrogen resulted in the transformation of retained austenite to two phases ...
