Evidence of a Forming Nucleus in the Fourcade–Figueroa Galaxy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze data from the IRAS, Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, and Planck satellites, revealing an unresolved dust condensation at the center of the Fourcade–Figueroa galaxy (ESO270-G017), which may correspond to a forming nucleus.

Systematic Study of the Inner Structure of Molecular Tori in Nearby U/LIRGs Using Velocity Decomposition of CO Rovibrational Absorption Lines

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Determining the inner structure of the molecular torus around an active galactic nucleus is essential for understanding its formation mechanism. However, spatially resolving the torus is difficult because of its small size.

Local Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies and Quasars

open access: yes, 2006
This paper reviews the recent results from a comprehensive investigation of the most luminous mergers in the local universe, the ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) and the quasars. First, the frequency of occurrence and importance of black hole driven nuclear activity in ULIRGs are discussed using the latest sets of optical, near-infrared, mid ...

Imaging of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies in the Near-UV

open access: yes, 2000
We present the first ground-based U' (3410 angstroms) images of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIGs). Strong U' emission (median total M_U' = -20.8) is seen in all systems and in some cases the extended tidal features (both the smooth stellar distribution and compact star-forming features) contribute up to 60-80% of the total flux.

A z ≃ 0.4 Galaxy Reflecting the High-redshift Little Red Dots: An Extended Starburst with an Overmassive Black Hole

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
One of the most remarkable discoveries of JWST is a population of compact, red sources at z > 4, commonly referred to as Little Red Dots (LRDs). Spectroscopic identifications reported that most LRDs are active galactic nuclei, which are preferentially ...

Global effects of interactions on galaxy evolution [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent observations of the evolutionary properties of paired and interacting galaxies are reviewed, with special emphasis on their global emission properties and star formation rates.

The Magnetic Fields of the Dusty Nuclei and Molecular Outflows of Arp 220

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Galaxy mergers trigger starburst activity and galactic outflows that enrich the circumgalactic medium (CGM), profoundly impacting galaxy evolution. These phenomena are intrinsically linked to the physical conditions of the medium, which is permeated by ...

Disclosing Submillimeter Galaxy Formation: Mergers or Secular Evolution?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze the morphology of 125 submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) in the PRIMER-COSMOS field using double Sérsic modeling on JWST NIRCam images across six bands (F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, F410M, and F444W), with SMGs being classified by the bulge Sérsic ...

Probing Heavily Obscured Active Galactic Nuclei in Major Galaxy Mergers Using the Millimeter–X-Ray Correlation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The study of heavily obscured supermassive black hole (SMBH) growth in late-stage galaxy mergers is challenging: column densities N _H > 10 ^24 cm ^−2 can block most nuclear emission, leaving significant gaps in the SMBH growth census.

Global Hot Gas Excess in (Ultra)Luminous Infrared Galaxies: Replicating Galactic Nuclei Scaling Relations between Diffuse X-Ray Emission and Star Formation on Galaxy-wide Scales

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Hot ionized interstellar medium interlinks star formation and stellar feedback processes, redistributing energy, momentum, and material throughout galaxies.
