Radio-only and Radio-to-far-ultraviolet Spectral Energy Distribution Modeling of 14 ULIRGs: Insights into the Global Properties of Infrared Bright Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present detailed spectral energy distribution (SED) modeling of 14 local ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) with outstanding photometric data from the literature covering the ultraviolet–infrared (FIR) and radio bands (∼50 MHz to ∼30 GHz).

Evidence for Multiple Mergers among Ultraluminous IR Galaxies (ULIRGs): Remnants of Compact Groups? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In a large sample of ULIRGs imaged with HST, we have identified a significant subsample that shows evidence for multiple mergers. The evidence is seen among two classes of ULIRGs: (1) those with multiple remnant nuclei in their core, sometimes ...

Compact starbursts in ultraluminous infrared galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
The 40 ultraluminous galaxies in the IRAS Bright Galaxy Sample of sources stronger than S = 5.24 Jy at lambda = 60 microns were mapped with approximately 0.25 arcsec resolution at 8.44 GHz. Twenty-five contain diffuse radio sources obeying the FIR-radio correlation; these are almost certainly starburst galaxies.

Southern ultraluminous infrared galaxies: An optical and infrared database [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series, 1997
We have carried out an optical and infrared study of 24 ultraluminous infrared galaxies in the southern hemisphere (SULIRGs). This flux limited, complete sample, has been extracted from the redshift survey of IRAS galaxies compiled by Strauss et al. (1992).

A Comparative Study of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies in the IRAS and SDSS Surveys

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We present a comprehensive study of ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs), leveraging data from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite Faint Source Catalogue and the spectroscopic catalog in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 16.

The Growth of Black Holes and Their Host Spheroids in (Sub)mm-loud QSOs at High Redshift

open access: yes, 2007
We study the growth of black holes and stellar population in spheroids at high redshift using several (sub)mm-loud QSO samples. Applying the same criteria established in an earlier work, we find that, similar to IR QSOs at low redshift, the far-infrared ...

Origin of Radio Emission in Three Nearby Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies with Signatures of Luminous Buried Active Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report multifrequency Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations at 2.3 and 8.4 GHz of three nearby ultraluminous infrared galaxies, identified via mid-infrared spectroscopic analyses as hosting deeply embedded active galactic nuclei (AGNs ...

Millimeter Interferometric Investigations of the Energy Sources of Three Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies, UGC 5101, Mrk 273, and IRAS 17208-0014, based on HCN to HCO+ Ratios

open access: yes, 2006
We present interferometric observations of three ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs; UGC 5101, Mrk 273, and IRAS 17208-0014) in the 3-mm wavelength range, using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array.

Spectroscopic Constraints on the Mid-infrared Attenuation Curve. I. Attenuation Model Using Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Emission

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We introduce a novel model to spectroscopically constrain the mid-infrared (MIR) extinction/attenuation curve from 3–17 μ m, using polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission drawn from an AKARI–Spitzer extragalactic cross-archival data set. Currently
