Defect characterization using ultrasonic arrays

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
There has been a massive increase in the use of ultrasonic arrays for non-destructive evaluation (NDE) in recent years. However, much of this technology is either based on medical ultrasound imaging or is designed simply to mimic traditional NDE inspections performed with monolithic transducers.

ELECTRONIC ARRAY PROBE FOR ULTRASONIC IMAGING

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010
An electronic array probe for ultrasonic imaging includes an array of transmitting and/or receiving electroacoustic transducers arranged in concentric bands in which the transducers are tangent to one other in both radial and circumferential directions.

Robot guidance using ultrasonic arrays

Journal of Robotic Systems, 1994
AbstractThe flexibility of robots can be considerably increased by having sensors that can detect the location and orientation of the components that are being manipulated by the robots. Vision systems have been widely applied to this problem, but there has been very little reported work on the use of ultrasonic sensors. This article reports the use of

Ultrasonic transducer array used in ultrasonic diagnosis apparatus

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989
In an ultrasonic transducer array used in an ultrasonic diagnosis apparatus, the pitch of transducer elements of peripheral subarrays is made smaller than that of a central subarray. The central transducer elements are adapted for acquiring a tomogram of an object to be examined, and the peripheral transducer elements are adapted for acquiring flow ...

Arc scan ultrasonic transducer array

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1985
A plurality of transducers is arranged successively on a common impedance matching layer of a resilient material. Each transducer comprises an elongated piezoelectric element having a width expansion vibrational mode, a pair of first and second electrodes attached to opposite surfaces of the element across its thickness and an elongated block of an ...

Optimization of Ultrasonic Phased Arrays

1998
Ultrasonic phased arrays are an emerging technology in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applications. A phased array is a multi-element piezo-electric device whose elements are individually excited by electric pulses at programmed delay times [1]. Such a delay scheme allows electronically controlled dynamic beam control.

Scalable distributed ultrasonic microphone array

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011
A modular approach to recording airborne ultrasound will be presented, the solution is based as much as possible, on retail components and open source software. The modular design, where each module has approx. 4 microphones, allows modules to be combined to extend the coverage area or get higher recording resolution.

Multi-dimensional ultrasonic array interconnect

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
An ultrasonic transducer array has a piezoelectric ceramic layer that is separated in a longitudinal direction into n transducer groups. Each group is separated in a transverse direction into m elements. A double-sided flex circuit has a flexible, non-conductive base layer, through which conductive vias extend and are in electrical contact with a ...

Ultrasonic backscatter measurements using phased array ultrasonic transducers

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Diffuse ultrasonic backscatter techniques are used to characterize microstructures and work well when grain scattering is confined within the single-scattering regime. When effects from higher-order scattering are present within the measurements, grain sizes are often overestimated.

Ultrasonic contact transducer and array

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994
A flexible ultrasonic contact transducer comprises an unpoled polymeric film layer and a poled piezo film layer. Electrode shielding layers are disposed on outer surfaces of the unpoled polymeric film layer and poled piezo film layer. A quarter wave reflector is disposed between inner surfaces of the two layers.
