Ultrasonic Detection Of Mine Fires

12th WVU International Mining Electrotechnology Conference, 2005
A commercially-available, acoustic ranging system demonstrated its capability to detect the occurrence of an experimental fire and concentrated smoke in a mine entry. This ranging system provided a temperature and smoke sensing method over a path between the system and a reflecting surface in the mine.

Ultrasonic detection of gas bubbles in blood

Ultrasonics, 1969
Abstract Several ultrasonic techniques for the detection of gas bubbles in blood are described. A system of a bubble chamber attached to circulating liquid is shown to detect small and large bubbles. Bubbles were most noticeable when the ultrasonic signal was at the 1st or 3rd harmonic of the receiver crystal (43 and 130kHz).

Detection of Delaminations by Ultrasonic Spectroscopy

IEEE Transactions on Sonics and Ultrasonics, 1976
A newly developed instrument for ultrasonic spectroscopy has been evaluated on various types of laminated structures to assess its effectiveness for detecting delaminations in composites. Presented are ultrasonic echo spectra obtained for different types of disbond conditions.

Concurrent detection of the production of ultrasonic lesions

Medical & Biological Engineering, 1966
Irradiation with a single beam of focused ultrasound is currently the method of choice for the production of trackless, focal, pan-necrotic lesions of predetermined size at any desired site within the central nervous system of experimental animals and man.

ULTRASONIC CLUES TO THE DETECTION OF CHROMOSOMAL ANOMALIES

Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America, 1993
The ultrasonic detection of fetal anomalies may well be the most challenging aspect of diagnostic ultrasound and, because ultrasonic clues to a chromosomal anomaly may be subtle, much depends on high quality ultrasound. Although difficult, the field is exciting and rewarding.
