Ultrasonic guided wave vibration formulation
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012A novel transient-guided-wave-based approach to predicting natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes of a semi-infinite plate has been developed. This theory uses the orthogonal propagating and evanescent guided wave modes to fully satisfy the elasticity structural vibration boundary value problem for the structure.

A review on ultrasonic guided wave technology
Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2017AbstractThis paper will provide some understanding on the Guided Wave Technology (GWT). Prior to the review of GWT, the authors will be providing some introduction on brief history of guided wave, basic physics on ultrasonic including on modes of wave propagation, operation principle of piezoelectric, Magnetostrictive, Electromagnetic Acoustic ...

Periodical Focusing Phenomenon of Ultrasonic Guided Waves in Pipes
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2022We put forward a focusing formula to describe the guided waves periodical focusing phenomenon, which, apart from being a fundamental problem in the guided waves' propagation in the pipes, has essential applications in the field of nondestructive evaluation.

Ultrasonic guided wave tomography of pipes
2010 International Conference on Audio, Language and Image Processing, 2010Ultrasonic guided wave tomography has been shown to be an effective nondestructive evaluation technique for pipe-like structures. Guided waves propagating in pipe with damage are simulated using the finite element and the first arrival times of the received signals are extracted as input data of tomography.

Ice detection by ultrasonic guided waves
CEAS Aeronautical Journal, 2018This paper describes a method for inflight ice detection using ultrasonic guided waves that is little studied until now. Unlike existing systems, the proposed method can immediately detect icing at the place of formation. The detection area can also include whole structural segments and the proposed sensor can be integrated into a wing structure ...

The Electromagnetic Ultrasonic Guided Wave Testing
2016As an important branch of the nondestructive testing field, ultrasonic testing is widely used in the steel, electric power, petroleum, transportation, and medical and other industries. In the process of ultrasonic testing, the ultrasonic transducer is the core component of excitation and reception of ultrasonic waves, mainly including the piezoelectric

Guided Wave Electromagnetic Ultrasonic Tomography
2019The defect of the aluminum plate concerned in this chapter is mainly the plate thickness loss-type defect caused by corrosion, and the plate thickness change caused by such defects is relatively flat. When Lamb waves encounter such defects, the amplitudes of other modal waves generated by modal transformation are relatively small.

Cure monitoring using ultrasonic guided waves in wires
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003The possibility of using ultrasonic guided waves for monitoring the cure process of epoxy resins is investigated. The two techniques presented use a wire waveguide which is partly embedded in the resin. The first technique is based on the measurement of attenuation due to leakage of bulk waves into the resin surrounding the waveguide.

Attenuation of Ultrasonic Guided Wave on Buried Illumination Pillar
2020 IEEE SENSORS, 2020This paper aims the development of a nondestructive inspection system for illumination pillars. The system detects the corrosion of a pillar by a screening inspection with a guided wave. Corrosion mainly occurs in the root part of the pillar in the ground. Small corrosion scatters and attenuates the guided wave.

Ultrasonics Guided Waves for Piping Inspection
1997An ultrasonic guided wave system for pipe inspection is proposed. Using guided wave experience to date on a variety of different tubing problems, feasibility experiments have already been conducted on piping under insulation in both a laboratory and chemical processing facility field environment. Several guided wave techniques are introduced, one using
