Excitability of ultrasonic lamb waves in a cortical bone plate: A simulation study
2015 6th European Symposium on Ultrasonic Characterization of Bone, 2015Application of ultrasonic axial transmission techniques to assess human elongated cortical bones has gained considerable attention in the area of bone tissue imaging and characterization. The cortical shell of long bones acts as a natural waveguide and supports the propagation of multiple guided modes. In practice, not all guided modes exist.

Localization of Reflectors in Plates by Ultrasonic Testing with Lamb Waves
Russian Journal of Nondestructive Testing, 2017An algorithm is suggested for localizing flaws in thin-walled objects based on the analysis of dispersion characteristics of Lamb waves. It is shown that applying the technique of determining the instantaneous signal frequency by means of wavelet transform makes it possible to reconstruct extensive sections of frequency dependences of the group delay ...

Ultrasonic surface waves and Lamb waves in fluid saturated porous solids
Proceedings., IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 2003The interactions of ultrasonic waves with a fluid/fluid-saturated porous solid interface and a fluid-saturated porous solid plate in a vacuum and in fluid have been studied. In the first case surface modes are generated and detected by using a periodically corrugated surface structure of a fluid-saturated porous solid; in the second case, the behavior ...

Ultrasonic Lamb Waves Applied In Nondestractive Damage Evaluation
2019 13th Symposium on Piezoelectrcity, Acoustic Waves and Device Applications (SPAWDA), 2019Among nondestructive damage testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques, the Lamb wave based methods have shown great potential for fast damage detection in plate-like structures. In order to develop Lamb waves based NDE methods, we firstly study the signal processing methods to find a good time-frequency representation (TFR) for ...

Excitation and detection of Lamb waves by cylindrical ultrasonic waveguides
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997In this paper a novel technique to generate and detect Lamb waves by use of cylindrical ultrasonic waveguides with off-shelf ultrasound transducers attached to the ends will be investigated. Due to the impedance mismatch between the transducer and the cylindrical rod waveguide, the energy transmission from an off-shelf transducer to the rod is not very

The propagation in metal tubing of ultrasonic wave modes equivalent to Lamb waves
Ultrasonics, 1979Abstract The generation of ultrasonic wave modes in thin-walled metal tubing has been investigated experimentally using piezoelectric ultrasonic probes. It is shown that the L(0, 1) mode, which is comparable to the A0 Lamb wave mode in flat plate, can be generated with acceptable efficiency.

Ultrasonic Lamb Wave Measurement and Data Analysis System
Advanced Materials Research, 2012Ultrasonic Lamb wave detection technology is an important, nondestructive testing technology for the damage of plate. In order to inspect the plate material nondestructively, an ultrasonic measurement system is investigated and the principle and structure of the system are described in this paper.

Nonlinear sensitivity of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic Lamb wave transducers
Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics, 2009A capacitive micromachined Lamb wave transducer using the second-order bending mode of high-aspect rectangular diaphragms to excite and receive Lamb waves in a silicon plate was presented [L. Ge, Proc. SPIE 6358, 1 (2006)]. Thus, the width of the diaphragm is made equal to the wavelength of the A0 wave, and all the transducer parameters can be ...

Intelligent Structural Health Monitoring with Ultrasonic Lamb Waves
2020Structural health monitoring is a branch of machine learning where we automatically interpret the output of in situ sensors to assess the structural integrity and remaining useful lifetime of engineered systems. Sensors can often be permanently placed in locations that are inaccessible or dangerous, and thus not appropriate for traditional ...
