Study on surface characteristics of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloy by ultrasonic surface rolling process

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016
Ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP) is an effective method to improve material surface quality, such as surface finish, microstructure, and stress state. Previously, USRP is usually used in comparably hard materials (e.g., instance steel and titanium alloys).

Microstructural evolution mechanisms in rolled 17-4PH steel processed by ultrasonic surface rolling process

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2020
Abstract The surface of rolled 17-4 precipitation-hardening steel was subjected to the ultrasonic surface rolling process technique at room temperature. Microstructural evolution mechanisms and its intrinsic relation with processing history, namely formation process and heat treatment, were systematically analyzed via high-resolution transmission ...

Investigation on Dynamics of Ultrasonic Surface Rolling Process

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Ultrasonic surface rolling processing (USRP) is a surface nanocrystallization method developed recently, which can bring metal surface with superior properties. In order to obtain the motion state of the processing tip during USRP, a 3D dynamic finite element model was adopted to simulate the response of processing tip.

Effects of ultrasonic surface rolling processing on the corrosion properties of uranium metal

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2021
Abstract Ultrasonic rolling processing is adopted to realize severe plastic deformation on uranium metal surfaces, and the microstructure near the surface is reconstructed. The results show that after rolling, the surface roughness of uranium samples can be reduced below Ra0.4, a gradient twin structure can be produced on the surface layer of uranium

Investigations on the nanocrystallization of 40Cr using ultrasonic surface rolling processing

Applied Surface Science, 2008
Abstract Ultrasonic surface rolling processing (USRP) was applied on quenched and tempered 40Cr. Microstructure observations of USRP specimen surface indicate that the processing can both get nano-structured layers, with grain size of 3–7 nm, and reduce the surface roughness to 0.05 μm.

Control of ultrasonic surface rolling process machine tool for aero-engine blades

2018 15th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV), 2018
The surface quality of blades affects the performance and security of aircraft engines. Ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP) can be used to improve service life of alloys. However, blades with complex design specifications are difficult to processing, especially the thin-walled leading/trailing edge should bear the loads during the process of ...

Coordinated bilateral ultrasonic surface rolling process on aero-engine blades

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2019
Security and performance of aircraft engines are extremely affected by the blades’ surface quality. Ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP) can improve material surface properties effectively and increase the alloys’ service life. However, applying USRP onto blades remains a challenge due to the free-form surface with thin-walled leading/trailing ...
