Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Fabrication of coconut dregs residue derived nano-cellulose film for food packaging

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Chemical Engineering
To replace conventional plastic as food packaging, several studies related to the preparation of cellulose films from various types of biomass have been reported. However, there have been no reports regarding the use of coconut dregs residue as source of

Fractal analysis of pore structures in graphene oxide-carbon nanotube based cementitious pastes under different ultrasonication

open access: yesNanotechnology Reviews, 2019
Nano cement additive using a hybrid of graphene oxide (GO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) combines the excellent affinity of GO and the superior mechanical properties of MWCNTs. Ultrasonication is the key process to disperse the GO/MWCNTs and

Processing of dairy ingredients by ultrasonication

open access: yes, 2020
The viscosity and gelation properties of dairy ingredients may be modified by the use of carefully selected ultrasonication treatments. These properties are retained after freeze or spray drying.

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Ultrasonication as a Green Processing Technology for Modulating the Physico‐Chemical, Rheological and Proximate Properties of Pearl Millet and Bambara Groundnut Flours

open access: yesLegume Science
Ultrasonication has emerged as an environmentally friendly processing technology for modifying the functional characteristics of food materials; however, its effects on underutilized cereal–legume systems remain insufficiently understood.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

A Low Psoas Muscle Index Was Associated With a Poorer Overall Survival in Patients Who Underwent Percutaneous Nephrostomy

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
In patients with malignant ureteral obstruction undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy, sarcopenia defined by a low psoas muscle index was independently associated with poor overall survival on multivariate Cox regression analysis, suggesting that preoperative assessment of psoas muscle index may aid prognostic stratification in this population.
