Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has an interesting history that parallels that of many of the advancements that have led to the endovascular era. The use of IVUS in conjunction with standard cross-sectional imaging and three-dimensional reconstructions offers a powerful tool in both the diagnosis and treatment of complex vascular pathology.

Since its development in the late 1970s, scrotal ultrasound has been used successfully to diagnose and evaluate many pathologic processes. At present, except for evaluation of a few entities, it is the diagnostic imaging modality of choice. Differentiation of normal from abnormal scrotal contents is possible with great accuracy.

Intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) can provide various diagnostic information that is otherwise not available, and can guide or assist various surgical procedures in real time. With refinement of equipment, IOUS is currently used in a wide variety of surgical operations, such as hepatobiliary, pancreatic, endocrine, cardiovascular, and neurologic surgery ...

Evaluation of the thyroid gland can be performed by several imaging techniques. Although ultrasound (US) lacks specificity for tissue diagnosis and can rarely distinguish benign from malignant disease, it can distinguish solid nodules from simple and complex cysts. It allows accurate estimation of thyroid size, gives a rough estimate of tissue density (

Because of their size and superficial location the ankle tendons can be well evaluated with ultrasound (US). The excellent definition of the modern high frequency probes allows us to consider US the technique of first choice in their assessment. Basic US appearances correlate well with the MRI findings.

A preliminary report on the treatment of plantar warts with ultrasound was made in 1958. The present study offers confirmation of this initial study by quoting a series of 1,000 patients. In view of the additional experience and knowledge gained, a revised technique and dosage is given for improving wart treatment.

Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice to evaluate the scrotum because of its high resolution, Doppler capabilities, availability, and lack of ionizing radiation. Acute urologic emergencies diagnosed with ultrasound include testicular torsion, testicular rupture, and Fournier gangrene.

Sonography has been widely utilized for several decades in the diagnosis and follow-up of developmental dysplasia of the hip due to its ability to visualize the nonossified femoral head and portions of the acetabulum in neonates, dynamic capabilities, accuracy, and lack of nonionizing radiation. Furthermore, hip sonography is also used throughout parts
