Sodium Alginate Ultrasound Phantom for Medical Education

Ultrasonic Imaging, 2021
The ultrasound phantoms used to educate medical students should not only closely mimic the ultrasound characteristics of human soft tissues but also be inexpensive and easy to manufacture. I have been studying handmade ultrasound phantoms and proposed an ultrasound phantom comprising calcium alginate hydrogel that met these requirements but caused a ...

A biventricular multimodal (MRI/ultrasound) cardiac phantom

2012 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2012
A cardiac phantom can be of crucial importance in the development and validation of ultrasound and cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and image analysis methods. A biventricular multimodal cardiac phantom has been manufactured in-house that can simulate normal and pathologic hearts with different degrees of infarction.

MRI compatible head phantom for ultrasound surgery

Ultrasonics, 2015
Develop a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compatible head phantom with acoustic attenuation closely matched to the human attenuation, and suitable for testing focused ultrasound surgery protocols.Images from an adult brain CT scan were used to segment the skull bone from adjacent cerebral tissue.

Tissue equivalent vessel phantoms for intravascular ultrasound

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1997
A tissue equivalent arterial vessel phantom has been developed for use in intravascular ultrasound imaging studies. The phantom material is constructed from a cross-linked gelatin matrix to which amorphous silica scattering particles are added. The ultrasonic properties (speed of sound, frequency-dependent attenuation coefficient and frequency ...

Model‐based ultrasound tomography: Tissue phantom experiments

Medical Physics, 2005
We present a detailed experimental study to evaluate our finite element based nonlinear reconstruction algorithm for recovery of acoustic properties in heterogeneous scattering media. Using a circularly scanning ultrasound system at , tissue phantom experiments were performed to study spatial resolution and contrast issues in model‐based ultrasound ...

Anthropomorphic Human Carotid Ultrasound Phantom

2022
Vascular hemodynamics and plaque composition are indicators of stroke risk. Previous work indicates that multi-angle Plane Wave (PW) implementation of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI), Log Variance of Acceleration (log(VoA)), and 2-D Vector Doppler (VD) imaging can detect plaque structure and composition.

Ultrasound heating in a tissue-bone phantom

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1994
Temperature rise generated by focused ultrasound beams was tested on semipermanent tissue-bone phantoms. The phantoms were capped (sealed) plastic hollow cylindrical containers filled with tissue-mimicking material (TMM), in which were imbedded 25 microns diameter copper-constantan thermocouples (TC) and a piece of compact human or cow bone.

Characterizing Viscoelastic Polyvinyl Alcohol Phantoms for Ultrasound Elastography

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2023
Ultrasound phantoms mimic the acoustic and mechanical properties of native tissues. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) phantoms are used extensively as models for validating ultrasound elastography approaches. However, the viscous properties of PVA phantoms have not been investigated adequately.

A perfused tissue phantom for ultrasound hyperthermia

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1990
A perfused tissue phantom, developed as a tool for analyzing the performance of ultrasound hyperthermia applicators, was investigated. The phantom, consisting of a fixed porcine kidney with thermocouples placed throughout the tissue, was perfused with degassed water by a variable flow rate pump.

A simple tissue-like ultrasound phantom material

The British Journal of Radiology, 1982
Routine testing and calibration of modern grey-scale ultrasound scanning equipment and the training of operators in its proper application can often benefit from the use of tissue-like phantoms. For example, checking of display systems, simple registration checks or familiarization with the operation of scanner controls to achieve optimal results, can ...
