Cryo-soft X-ray tomography: using soft X-rays to explore the ultrastructure of whole cells

open access: yesEmerging Topics in Life Sciences, 2018
Cryo-soft X-ray tomography is an imaging technique that addresses the need for mesoscale imaging of cellular ultrastructure of relatively thick samples without the need for staining or chemical modification.

Oxidative stress mediated by gyrophoric acid from the lichen Umbilicaria hirsuta affected apoptosis and stress/survival pathways in HeLa cells

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2019
Background Lichens produce a huge diversity of bioactive compounds with several biological effects. Gyrophoric acid (GA) is found in high concentrations in the common lichen Umbilicaria hirsuta, however evidence for biological activity was limited to ...

Diethylcarbamazine Reduces Chronic Inflammation and Fibrosis in Carbon Tetrachloride- (CCl4-) Induced Liver Injury in Mice

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2014
This study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of DEC on the CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in C57BL/6 mice. Chronic inflammation was induced by i.p. administration of CCl4 0.5 μL/g of body weight through two injections a week for 6 weeks. DEC (50 mg/

New Data on Nephron Microanatomy and Ultrastructure of Senegal Bichir (Polypterus senegalus)

open access: yesBiology, 2022
This study presents new data on the microanatomy and ultrastructure of Polypterus senegalus nephrons. It was shown that the diameter and ultrastructure of renal corpuscles, a well-developed neck segment, and ultrastructure of two types of epithelial ...

3D Bioprinted Breast Cancer‐Stroma Model with Tailored Migration‐Permissive Bioink Reveals Impact of Adipose‐Derived Stromal Cells on Cancer Cell Migration and Invasion Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A migration‐permissive bioink composed of methacrylated collagen type I and thiolated hyaluronic acid enables 3D bioprinting of breast cancer‐stroma models. Single‐cell tracking reveals that adipose stromal cells enhance tumor cell motility and stromal invasion, accompanied by collagen remodeling, and a shift in tumor cell morphology.

The Value of Transmission Electron Microscopy for Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Diagnosis in the Era of Molecular Medicine: Genetic Defects with Normal and Non-Diagnostic Ciliary Ultrastructure

open access: yesUltrastructural Pathology, 2017
Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a genetic disorder causing chronic oto-sino-pulmonary disease. No single diagnostic test will detect all PCD cases.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...
