YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Short-range ultraviolet irradiation with LED device effectively increases serum levels of 25(OH)D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Impairment of the activities of daily living (ADL) by osteoporosis is an important concern in developed countries with a super-aging population. Vitamin D, which is a crucial molecule in bone metabolism and mainly produced endogenously with ultraviolet ...

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Emission Enhancement of ZnO Thin Films in Ultraviolet Wavelength Region Using Au Nano-Hemisphere on Al Mirror Structures

open access: yesNanomaterials
Using a heterogeneous metal Nano Hemisphere on Mirror (NHoM) structure, composed of an Al2O3 thin film and Au nano-hemispheres formed on a thick Al film, we successfully generated two distinct surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peaks: one in the ultraviolet

Analysis of Polarization-Dependent Light Extraction and Effect of Passivation Layer for 230-nm AlGaN Nanowire Light-Emitting Diodes

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
This paper investigates the polarization-dependent light extraction efficiency ( $\eta _{\rm extraction}$) and the effect of passivation layer for AlGaN-based nanowire (NW) deep-ultraviolet (DUV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) emitted at 230 nm using three-

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Some effects of ultraviolet radiation and climate on the reproduction of Calanus finmarchicus (Copepoda) and year class formation in Arcto-Norwegian cod (Gadus morhua)

open access: yes, 2005
Zooplankton sampling in 1997 identified the frontal zone of the Norwegian Coastal Current as a reproduction habitat for Calanus finmarchicus in June-August.

Induction of chromosome shattering by ultraviolet light and caffeine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Synchronized and asynchronously growing cells of a V79 sub-line of the Chinese hamster were either partial-cell irradiation (λ, 254 nm) or laser-UV-microirradiated (λ, 257 nm).
