Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

On the Correlation Between CO Absorption and Far-Ultraviolet Non-Linear Extinction Toward Galactic OB Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A sample of 59 sight lines to reddened Galactic OB stars was examined for correlations of the strength of the CO Fourth Positive (A - X) absorption band system with the ultraviolet interstellar extinction curve parameters.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Emission spectra of atomic and molecular nitrogen from photolysis of ammonia in solid neon

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
Dilute samples of NH3 and ND3 in solid neon near 4 K were irradiated at 200 or 173 or 143 nm with light from a synchrotron. We recorded emission spectra of atomic N, involving states 4So, 2Po and 2Do, and of molecular N2, involving states X 1Σg+, A 3Σu+,

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

A spectrophotometric study of blood group A-specific substance isolated from hog gastric mucosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1948
A study of the ultraviolet absorption spectra of preparations of blood group A-specific substance isolated from hog gastric mucin supports the view that group A substance, and probably group O substance, has little specific absorption in this spectral ...

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Solvent effect on electronic absorption spectra of some N-aryl substituted dodekanamides

open access: yesMacedonian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 2006
A series of N-aryl substituted dodekanamides were synthesized using the reaction of fatty acid chloride (lauroylchloride) with p-substituted aromatic amines in the presence of triethylamine as an organic base and dioxane as a solvent. The structures of N-

Ultraviolet absorption of contaminants in water

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Contaminants in water were studied using ultraviolet absorption with light emitting diode and deuterium lamp sources, and a thresholding detector. The absorption spectra of potassium hydrogen pthalate, clothianidin, tryptophan, thiamethoxam, uric acid ...
