Heterogeneous Nanopore Arrays – Selective Modification of Nanopores Embedded in a Membrane

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biological processes rely on the concerted action of channels with different functionalities embedded in the same membrane. Inspired by nature, heterogeneous nanopore arrays are prepared where two nanopores are connected in parallel and function as two different elements of an ionic circuit: a diode and a resistor.

HARPO: a TPC as a gamma-ray telescope and polarimeter

open access: yes, 2014
A gas Time Projection Chamber can be used for gamma-ray astronomy with excellent angular-precision and sensitivity to faint sources, and for polarimetry, through the measurement of photon conversion to $e^+e^-$ pairs.

The Promise of Solid Lubricants for a Sustainable Future

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lubricants are vital for technology, saving energy and resources. The industry seeks sustainable solutions beyond fossil fuels. Solid lubricants offer extremely low friction and reduce environmental impact, especially in harsh conditions. Can these solids truly replace liquid lubricants, or are they limited to extreme applications?

Star Formation at z=2.481 in the Lensed Galaxy SDSS J1110+6459: Star Formation down to 30 parsec scales

open access: yes, 2017
We present measurements of the surface density of star formation, the star-forming clump luminosity function, and the clump size distribution function, for the lensed galaxy SGAS J111020.0+645950.8 at a redshift of z=2.481.

Ultraviolet Signposts of Resonant Dynamics in the Starburst-Ringed Sab Galaxy, M94 (NGC 4736) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
M94 (NGC 4736) is investigated using images from the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (FUV-band), Hubble Space Telescope (NUV-band), Kitt Peak 0.9-m telescope (H-alpha, R, and I bands), and Palomar 5-m telescope (B-band), along with spectra from the ...

HZO/HSO Superlattice ReFET Array Integrating Optical Sensing for Neuromorphic Vision Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A photonic ReFET array with an engineered HZO–HSO superlattice enables monolithic integration of optical sensing, nonvolatile memory, and synaptic computation. It exhibits forming‐free, >8‐bit analog states, >1010 endurance cycles, and light‐tunable conductance.

Development status of the LAUE project

open access: yes, 2012
We present the status of LAUE, a project supported by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and devoted to develop Laue lenses with long focal length (up to 100 meters), for hard X--/soft gamma--ray astronomy (80-600 keV).

Shapeshifting Nanocatalyst for CO2 Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A multi‐modal in situ characterization of Ag‐Cu nanoparticles during CO2 photoreduction sheds light on dynamic transformations occurring during reaction. The Cu(core)‐Ag(shell) nanoparticles present the Ag replacement by Cu atoms. Ag is trapped at the subsurface forming a Ag‐Cu‐O phase, and the nanoparticle spreads over the substrate.

Dimensionally Resolved Nanostructures of an Atomically Precise and Optically Active 1D van der Waals Helix

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to grow nanostructures based on inorganic helical crystals with long‐range order will enable a platform to realize physical states that arise from chirality. Herein, it is demonstrated that controlled vapor phase deposition of an atomically precise helical crystal, GaSI, into ultrathin 1D nanowires and quasi‐2D nanoribbons.
