Luminescence and Photochromism in Lanthanide‐Doped Hackmanites

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Lanthanide‐doped lithium hackmanite derivatives are prepared utilizing a doped LiAlSiO4 precursor to modify luminescent and photochromic properties. Upon UV excitation, europium doping results in green Eu2+ persistent luminescence from shallow traps. Contrarily, samarium doping induces unusual near‐infrared photochromism.

Escaping Ionizing Photons from Massive Spiral Galaxies at z ∼ 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the detection of Lyman continuum (LyC) photons from three massive ( M _* > 10 ^10 M _⊙ ) spiral galaxies at a redshift of nearly 1 in the AstroSat UV Deep Field South.

HAZMAT. IX. An Analysis of the UV and X-Ray Evolution of Low-mass Stars in the Era of Gaia

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Low-mass stars (≤1 M _⊙ ) are some of the best candidates for hosting planets with detectable life because of these stars’ long lifetimes and relative ratios of planet to star mass and radius.

Chip‐Integrated Metasurface‐GaAsSb Nanowire Array Photodetectors for Single‐Pixel Polarimetric Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A 2×2 multiplexed GaAsSb nanowire photodetector array integrated with L‐shaped metasurfaces is developed for miniaturized infrared polarimetry. Leveraging non‐radiating anapole states that facilitate near‐field enhancement, the device demonstrates strong polarization selectivity at 835 nm.

AstroSat UVIT Survey of M31: New Compact Source Catalog

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
An ultraviolet survey of M31 was carried out during 2017–2023 with the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) instrument on board the AstroSat Observatory. Here we present far- and near-ultraviolet (FUV and NUV) observations from the M31 UVIT survey, which

The Low-redshift Lyman Continuum Survey. I. New, Diverse Local Lyman Continuum Emitters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2022
The origins of Lyman continuum (LyC) photons responsible for the reionization of the universe are as of yet unknown and highly contested. Detecting LyC photons from the Epoch of Reionization is not possible due to absorption by the intergalactic medium ...

The GALEX ultraviolet virgo cluster survey (GUViCS) : III. The ultraviolet source catalogs

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we introduce the deepest and most extensive ultraviolet extragalactic source catalogs of the Virgo Cluster area to date. Archival and targeted GALEX imaging is compiled and combined to provide the deepest possible coverage over 120 deg2 in ...

Study of Free‐Space Optical Quantum Network: Review and Prospectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Free from the constraints of fiber connections, free‐space quantum network enables longer and more flexible quantum network connections. This review summarizes and comparatively analyzes free‐space quantum network experiments based on ground stations, satellites, and mobile platforms.

A Census of Near-UV M-dwarf Flares Using Archival GALEX Data and the gPHOTON2 Pipeline

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
M-dwarfs are common stellar hosts of habitable-zone exoplanets. Near-UV (NUV) radiation can severely impact the atmospheric and surface conditions of such planets, making the characterization of NUV flaring activity a key aspect in determining ...

Superconducting tunnel junctions as detectors for ultraviolet, optical, and near infrared astronomy

open access: yes, 1996
We discuss the capabilities of superconducting tunnel junctions as detectors for ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared astronomy. Such junctions have recently been shown to allow the detection of individual optical and ultraviolet photons with an ...
