Attached Ulva meridionalis on nearshore dikes may pose a new ecological risk in the Yellow Sea

Environmental Pollution, 2023
Green tides have been reported to occur in many sea areas worldwide. In China, most of them are caused by Ulva spp., such as Ulva prolifera and Ulva meridionalis. Green tide algae shed are frequently the initial biomass for the formation of green tide. Human activities and seawater eutrophication are the fundamental causes of the formation of the green

Unforeseen green tide of floating tubular Ulva meridionalis, a lethal threat to oyster farming, along the west coast of Taiwan: tracking its origin and ecophysiological insights

Botanica Marina
Abstract Ulva green tides have adversely affected coastal ecosystems. In June 2023 in Changhua County, Taiwan, an unprecedented floating tubular Ulva bloom spanning about 30 km of coastline caused about 30 % reduction in oyster yield as reported by local farmers.
