First report of Chloropelta caespitosa (Ulvaceae, Ulvales, Ulvophyceae) in Japan*
Phycological Research, 1996SUMMARY Chloropelta caespitosa Tanner was found in Nagasaki Prefecture, in western Japan. This is the first record of this species in Japan and the western Pacific. Morphology and early development in culture corresponded with the original description of this species. Reproduction is by asexual quadriflagellate (rarely biflagetlate) zoospores.

Production of bioflavor by regeneration from protoplasts of Ulva pertusa (Ulvales, Chlorophyta)
Hydrobiologia, 1990Protoplasts were isolated from thalli of Ulva pertusa using a mixed enzyme solution of 2.0% Cellulase Onozuka R-10, 2.0% Macerozyme R-10, and 2.0% Driselase. Isolated protoplasts regenerated cell walls, developed into thalli, and propagated in large numbers under aeration in the preparative scale-culture system.

DNA content of Ulva compressa (Ulvales, Chlorophyta) nuclei determined with laser scanning cytometry
Phycological Research, 2005SUMMARY The green macroalgal genus Ulva (incl. Entemmorpha) contains economically valuable species, is of relevance for coastal management (green tides), and certain taxa serve as experimental organisms for fundamental research in green algae. The nuclear genome size of Ulva (Entemmorpha) compressa Linnaeus was measured in propidium iodide stained ...

Flagellar roots, mating structure and gametic fusion in the green alga Ulva lactuca (Ulvales)
Journal of Cell Science, 1980ABSTRACT The slightly anisogamous gametes of Ulva lactuca exhibit a cruciate flagellar root system consisting of 4 microtubular roots (4-2-4-2-system) and an elaborate system of fibrous roots associated with the 2-stranded microtubular roots.

Marine Biology, 1987
Thirteen asexually reproducing clones of Enteromorpha linza were found in samples collected from March to September 1982 in Long Island Sound, USA, based on variation at five enzyme loci. Significant differences in the relative frequency of each clone were observed among samples from 16 localities. There was a tendency for localities at the eastern end

Intracellular acid phosphatase activity has been detected in the marine macroalga Ulva rigida. Cytochemical experiments conducted in vegetative cells evidenced the presence of the reaction product adjacent to or along the plasma- lemma, within cytoplasmic vesicles and associated with different vacuolar inclu- sions such as vesicles and multivesicular ...
