Effects of Hypoplastic Fetal Umbilical Artery on Doppler Findings For Common Iliac Arteries

open access: yes, 2017
Background: The umbilical cord contains two arteries and one vein. Normally, the diameters of umbilical arteries are close in size, but this may vary, as one umbilical artery may be considerably smaller or more hypoplastic than the ...

Umbilical and middle cerebral arteries Doppler velocimetry in early and late onset pre-eclampsia

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a multisytemic disorder originating from the placenta with a high prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa. Early (<34 weeks) and late (>34 weeks) – onset PE have different maternal and perinatal outcomes with overlapping ...

Microgel‐Based 3D Bioprinting: A Convergent Strategy Integrating Material Design, Jamming Dynamics, and Biological Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microgel‐based 3D printed constructs represent a compelling and versatile innovation for engineering architecturally complex, dynamically remodelable, and biocompatible structures with high structural fidelity and bioactivity. By integrating material design, biofabrication, and biological function, these systems enable the development of adaptive ...

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Perivascular Matrix Densification Dysregulates Angiogenesis and Activates Pro‐Inflammatory Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Perivascular matrix densification promotes the emergence of aberrant endothelial tip cells (ATECs) that invade and persist within fibrotic microenvironments. Using in vivo lineage tracing and a human microvessel model, this study shows that fibrous matrix cues destabilize VE‐cadherin–mediated junctions to gate TGF‐β signaling, inducing a pro ...

Small Vessel Replacement by Human Umbilical Arteries With Polyelectrolyte Film-Treated Arteries In Vivo Behavior

open access: yes, 2008
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the patency of human umbilical arteries treated with polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) after rabbit implantation.BackgroundThe development of small-caliber vascular substitutes with high patency after ...

Heme‐NO Dilates Arteries via Mobilization of NO Moieties From an Intracellular NO Store Within Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrosyl heme emerges as an extracellular nitrodilator that dilates arteries without crossing the cell membrane. Instead, heme‐NO mobilizes NO moieties from a preformed intracellular NO store within vascular smooth muscle, providing both functional and chemical evidence for the NANOS model, revealing a previously unrecognized mechanism of arterial ...

4.8 PLACENTAL NA/K-ATPASE INHIBITOR MARINOBUFAGENIN INDUCES ARTERIAL WALL FIBROSIS IN PREECLAMPSIA

open access: yesArtery Research, 2018
Background: Previous studies implicated cardiotonic steroids, including Na/K-ATPase inhibitor marinobufagenin (MBG), in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia (PE). Immunoneutralization of heightened MBG by Digibind, a digoxin antibody, reduces blood pressure (

CD4+ Tregs Drive Post‐Ischemic Sprouting Angiogenesis via Endothelial YY1/MAML1 Reactivation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microvascular complications of diabetes are chronic diseases of small vessels. We previously found that CD4+ regulatory T‐cells (Tregs) are markedly reduced in type 2 diabetes (T2D) after ischemic injury in both mice and humans, and that Treg deficiency in immunodeficient mice impairs vascular regeneration.
