A study on DVR control for unbalanced voltage compensation

APEC. Seventeenth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (Cat. No.02CH37335), 2003
This paper presents a new control scheme for a DVR (dynamic voltage restorer) system consisting of series voltage source PWM converters. To control the negative sequence components of the source, it is necessary to detect the negative sequence components. Generally, a filtering process is used which has some undesirable effects.

Balancing of unbalanced loads using static VAR compensators

Electric Power Systems Research, 1987
Abstract This paper presents a new application of the static VAR compensator systems (SVSs) for balancing three-phase unbalanced loads, at the same time, improving their power factor to unity using the load compensation theory. Two methods are developed to determine the compensator elements and the associated energy saving.

Microprocessor-based static reactive power compensators for unbalanced loads

Electric Power Systems Research, 1994
Abstract A static reactive power (var) compensator (SVC), which consists of thyristor-controlled reactors (TCRs) and relay-controlled capacitors (RCCs), is designed and implemented in this paper to improve the power factor and to reduce the negative-sequence currents of an unbalanced power system. Each phase of the SVC can be independently controlled

Optimal balancing of large unbalanced loads using shunt compensators

8th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX227), 2002
Shunt compensators (SCs) with variable susceptances are commonly used for balancing of large unbalanced loads. The control of a balancing SC utilises Steinmetz's method based on correction of the unbalanced load (UL) to a fully balanced one with unity power factor.

A novel compensator for unbalanced three phase distribution feeders

2000 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37077), 2002
A new reactive power compensator to reduce the negative and zero sequence components caused by unbalanced loads and to adjust load bus voltages for three-phase three-wire and three-phase four-wire distribution feeders is presented. The new compensator consists of a three-phase voltage source inverter (to eliminate negative sequence components and ...

Delta-Connected Cascaded H-Bridge Converter Application in Unbalanced Load Compensation

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015
The delta-connected cascaded H-bridge converter has been applied to compensate flicker and unbalance load to meet power quality requirement. Based on the detailed power analysis, this paper presents a dc capacitor voltage-balancing technique for the converter.

Compensation of unbalanced voltage dips using vector-controlled static series compensator with LC-filter

Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.02CH37344), 2003
Voltage dips due to faults are considered the most critical power quality problem to sensitive industrial loads. The voltage source converter, connected in series with the grid as a static series compensator (SSC), is suited to protect sensitive loads against such disturbances.

Compensating Characteristics of a Series-Shunt Active Power Filter Considering Unbalanced Source Voltage and Unbalanced Load

2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya, 2007
Recently, the suppression of the harmonic component in the electric power system has become an important problem. In this paper, we analyze compensating characteristics of a series-shunt active power filter by simulation and experiment when source voltage or load current becomes unbalanced.

Analysis and control of shunt-compensator for mitigating unbalanced voltages

2007 Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2007
This paper presents the analysis and the control of shunt-compensator for improving unbalanced voltages of power distribution systems in Thailand. The shunt-compensator is connected to the low voltage level in power distribution system. The analysis detail and the design of shunt-compensator obtain by using the voltage vector control (mathematical ...
