High Temperature Leaching of Lignin From Unbleached Kraft Pulp Fibers

Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 1983
Abstract When an unbleached kraft pulp was suspended in water at various temperatures between 20°C and 90°C the rate of the leaching of lignin from the fiber wall increased with the temperature. From 20°C to 70°C, the change in the intrafiber diffusion coefficient with temperature varied directly as the ratio of the absolute temperature to the ...

Delignification of an unbleached hardwood kraft pulp by Phanerochaete chrysosporium

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1987
Culture conditions affecting lignin degradation of an unbleached hardwood kraft pulp by Phanerochaete chrysosporium have been examined. Optimum pH and temperature for lignin degradation (about 33%) were 3.5 and 38°C, respectively. Optimum fungal growth was at a pH of 4.5 and a temperature of around 32°C.

Sulfur makeup in an unbleached kraft pulp mill

TAPPI Journal
Sodium sesquisulfate or “sesqui” (Na3H(SO4)2) is a by-product of chlorine dioxide production at kraft pulp mills. It is typically used for sodium and sulfur makeup in the liquor loop. Mondi Hinton Inc. (MHI) in Hinton, AB, Canada, was converting from bleached to unbleached kraft pulp production and was thus losing this source of makeup. The only option

Surface Characterization of Unbleached and Oxygen Delignified Kraft Pulp Fibers

Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 2003
The chemical and morphological surface properties of different unbleached and oxygen delignified softwood kraft pulp fibers were evaluated by using different ESCA and SEM techniques. The results of the different techniques have revealed that the surface of unbleached and oxygen delignified kraft pulp fibers has a higher content of lignin and in some ...

Use of Xylanase and Rabinofuranosidase for Arabinose Removal from Unbleached Kraft Pulp

Biotechnology Letters, 2005
Preparations of arabinofuranosidase and xylanase, respectively from Aureobasidium pullulans and Trichoderma longibrachiatum, were used to remove selectively xylose and arabinose from kraft pulp. The equilibrium moisture content of pulps treated with both enzymes, at varying relative humidities, revealed a consistently lower percent moisture content at ...

Residual Lignin in Uneleached Kraft Pulp. Part I.: -Allkalli-Extraction of Residual Lignin from Unbleached Kraft Pulp Solution-

Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 1987
Abstract Unbleached kraft pulp containing 4.7% Klason lignin has been found to dissolve completely in several nonaqueous cellulose solvents. Extraction of the residual lignin in the unbleached kraft pulp from these solutions was attempted using several kinds of solvents for kraft lignin and hemicellulcoes.

Recycling performance of softwood and hardwood unbleached kraft pulps for packaging papers

TAPPI Journal, 2023
The scope of this work is to evaluate the recyclability potential of hardwood and softwood unbleached kraft pulps, leading to a sound basis for comparison and even to support a decision about fibers according to the performance achieved. The influence of successive recycling cycles (up to 10 cycles) on the fiber morphology, pulp suspension drainability,

Effect of the counterion on the beatability of unbleached kraft pulps

Nordic Pulp & Paper Research Journal, 2000
The objective of this investigation was to demonstrate the effect of the counterion on the energy consumption during a beating process and on the resulting strength properties of handsheets.

Molecular Weight of Lignin Fractions Leached from Unbleached Kraft Pulp Fibers

Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 1984
Abstract The molecular weights of lignin fractions leached from an unbleached kraft pulp were found to increase from 230,000 to 410,000 as washing of the pulp proceeded. The free diffusion coefficients for both a spherical and a disk-like conformation were calculated and were found to be seven orders of magnitude higher than the observed intrafiber ...
