Training‐Free Regulation of Grasping by Intracortical Tactile Feedback Designed via S1‐M1 Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
During object grasping in macaques, information flow between the primary sensory cortex (S1) and the primary motor cortex (M1) is modulated by tactile properties of the target. Intracortical micro‐stimulation in S1 reliably evokes M1 responses that resemble those naturally generated during grasping under specific tactile conditions.

A companion to the preclinical common data elements for genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics data in rodent epilepsy models. A report of the TASK3‐WG4 omics working group of the ILAE/AES joint translational TASK force

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract The International League Against Epilepsy/American Epilepsy Society (ILAE/AES) Joint Translational Task Force established the TASK3 working groups to create common data elements (CDEs) for various preclinical epilepsy research disciplines. The aim of the CDEs is to improve the standardization of experimental designs across a range of epilepsy ...

Prenatal Brain Abnormalities in Sodium‐Dependent Multivitamin Transporter Deficiency

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In treatable neurometabolic disorders, early diagnosis and prompt initiation of treatment are key to improved survival and outcomes. Biallelic variants in SLC5A6 cause sodium‐dependent multivitamin transporter deficiency (OMIM # 618973), which is treatable with high‐dose pantothenic acid, biotin, and alpha lipoic acid.

Alternatives to Carbon Dioxide in Two Phases for the Improvement of Broiler Chickens’ Welfare during Stunning

open access: yesAnimals
This study evaluated the exposure to gas mixtures of carbon dioxide (CO2) associated with nitrogen (N2) as alternatives to CO2 in two phases to improve the welfare of broiler chickens at slaughter. Broilers were exposed to one of three treatments: 40C90C

Critical Changes in Cortical Neuronal Interactions in Anesthetized and Awake Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Neuronal interactions are fundamental for information processing, cognition and consciousness. Anesthetics reduce spontaneous cortical activity; however, neuronal reactivity to sensory stimuli is often preserved or augmented.

The Expanding Clinical and Genetic Spectrum of Muscle Glycogen Storage Disease 0, (GSD0B)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glycogen storage disorders are a group of genetic disorders affecting glucose homeostasis in the body. Muscular glycogen stores are essential for liberating glucose for energy supply during bursts of activity and sustained muscle work. Muscle glycogen storage disease 0 (GSD0B) is associated with biallelic variants in GYS1 causing muscular ...

Was the abolition of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission an act of dispossession?

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
Abstract The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) has been described as one of the most comprehensive regional and national governance structures for Indigenous people in Australia. This paper looks briefly at its operational life between 1990 and 2005 and focusses on its abolition, arguing that this was an act of dispossession. The
