Seasonal changes in submarine melting mechanisms controlling frontal ablation of Hansbreen, Svalbard

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2023
We describe the annual pattern of frontal ablation driven by submarine melting mechanisms at the Hansbreen terminus: these are reflected in the intensity and spatial distribution of calving events.

Retreat of Humboldt Gletscher, North Greenland, Driven by Undercutting From a Warmer Ocean

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Humboldt Gletscher is a 100‐km wide, slow‐moving glacier in north Greenland which holds a 19‐cm global sea level equivalent. Humboldt has been the fourth largest contributor to sea level rise since 1972 but the cause of its mass loss has not been ...

Joining of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic/steel hybrid parts via undercutting pin structures and infrared heating

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Joining Processes, 2022
Continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRT)/steel hybrid parts offer promising properties and possibilities, which can exceed the capabilities of both individual materials. In this case, the joining operation presents the main challenge. This paper

Micropillar‐Engineered Hybrid Adhesive Patch for Surface‐Conformable and Directional Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents a surface‐conformable hybrid adhesive integrating height‐optimized hexagonal micropillars with open‐rectangular cuts. The micropillars enhance rough‐surface contact and microscale crack arrest, while the cuts guide and reverse interfacial cracks for strong and directional adhesion. The multiscale architecture achieves robust pull‐off

Undercutting Defeat and Edgington's Burglar

open access: yes
This paper does four things. First it lays out an orthodox position on reasons and defeaters. Then it argues that the position just laid out is mistaken about “undercutting” defeaters.

Microfabrication of Soft Millirobots Propelled by Low Voltage Electrohydraulic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Manual layer‐by‐layer assembly is replaced by wafer‐level MEMS batch fabrication for compliant polymer‐based electrohydraulic actuators. The microfabricated devices integrate sacrificially defined microcavities, Parylene‐C‐sealed inlets, and multilayer polymer–metal films.

Effects of salinized deterioration and aeolian ullage on soils in undercutting areas of earthern ruins in arid regions (II)

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
The effects of saline deterioration and aeolian ullage are the important controlling process for the formation and development of undercutting disease at the bottom of earthen sites in arid regions.

High‐Stress Si3N4 Reflective Membranes Monolithically Integrated With Cavity Bragg Mirrors

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Silicon nitride membranes are record‐breaking mechanical sensors, yet their delicate fabrication and alignment into precision optical cavities have confined them to the laboratory. A monolithic process directly integrates suspended high‐stress Si3N4${\rm Si}_{3}{\rm N}_4$ membranes onto Bragg mirrors, forming self‐aligned optomechanical cavities in ...

Testing the rocks loosening process by undercutting anchors

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2020
The method of unconventional solid rock loosening with undercutting anchors and the literature analysis of the problem are presented. The tests and test results of the rocks loosening process with a fixed undercutting anchor are described. The tests were
