Linear System Identification and Control of a Low‐Cost High‐Performance Omnidirectional Marine Surface Vehicle for Swarming Applications

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Marine operations traditionally rely on human intervention, a costly and disruptive method. Autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) offer a powerful alternative, capable of operating autonomously, for extended periods, and with various sensors for various missions.

FLSea: Underwater Visual–Inertial and Stereovision Forward‐Looking Data Sets

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Visibility underwater is challenging and degrades as the distance between the subject and the camera increases. That is why forward‐looking underwater computer vision tasks are difficult. We have collected underwater forward‐looking stereovision and visual–inertial image sets using two underwater imaging platforms, a stereo camera rig, and an ...

Underwater acoustic absorbing materials based on construction of locally resonant units and interpenetrating network

open access: yes, 2010
The key issues in development of underwater acoustic absorbing materials originated from rigorous requirements on high mechanical strength, large underwater acoustic absorbing coefficient in wide frequency band and sea-water corrosion resistance.

Formation Control With Obstacle Avoidance of Underwater Swarms Based on Relative Visual Feedback

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater multi‐robot and swarm systems require advanced methodologies for controlling collective behavior. Conventional single‐robot techniques, such as tethering, sonar imaging, and acoustic localization, are not scalable or effective for swarm applications.

Localization of underwater gliders with acoustic travel-time in an observation network

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents a method to localize underwater gliders in observation networks, and this method is also applicable to other vehicles. Utilizing the travel time of acoustic signals from near-surface acoustic sources, the dead-reckoning positions of ...

Dumpsite Seabed Characterization of the San Pedro Basin, CA, From Autonomous Vehicle Observations

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A wide‐area seabed survey was conducted using autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in a known dumpsite off the coast of Southern California that has been found to have widespread sediment contamination from the chemical dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT).

Distortion Performance of Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2015
The paper studies the distortion performance of multihop underwater acoustic sensor networks. The network is composed of bottom mounted sensor nodes and the sensor to sensor links experience Rician fading. The distortion is evaluated for the case when there is interference from other sensors in the network.

The Return of the Allis Shad (Alosa alosa) to the Lower Navigable Reaches of the Seine: Locks Play a Role

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In France, it is estimated that shads (Alosa spp.) have lost 69% of their historical range, mainly due to disrupted river connectivity. After an absence of one century, signs of their return in the Seine River have been recorded over the past two decades: adult and juvenile specimens have been caught by anglers or recorded at video‐counting ...
