UNDERWATER EXPLOSIONS BENEATH ICE
1962Abstract : Effects of underwater explosions beneath lake ice and Arctic ice have been studied experimentally. Results are applicable to prediction of underwater damage ranges from nuclear bursts beneath ice, and to the design of an explosive ice destructor to provide nuclear submarines with quick access to surface.

Similarity Criteria for Underwater Explosions
Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 2004The series of dimensionless parameters for the generalized representation of the space–time parameters of underwater explosions is supplemented taking into account the influence of density and velocity of sound in the liquid on shock‐wave propagation.

Numerical simulation of underwater explosions
Computers & Fluids, 1994Abstract This paper presents a numerical study of the problems of underwater explosions. The numerical results of the transient pressures in both explosive and surrounding water are shown. Comparisons with experimental data for both cast TNT (Trinitrotoluene) and PETN (Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate) explosives confirm that the suggested numerical ...

Conventional Weapons Underwater Explosions
1988Abstract : Results are reported upon from an ONR-sponsored workshop in conventional weapons underwater explosions. The report contains background tutorial material as well as workshop results. Organized into sub-groups, individual workshop reports are presented in the areas of detonations, bubble dynamics, bubble-water interface phenomena and metal ...

Underwater Testing of Slurry Explosives
Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 1980AbstractThe facilities in use at Dyno Industrier A.S for testing explosives underwater are described. Shock wave energy and bubble energy together with detonation velocity are measured with different degrees of confinement. The use of the underwater shooting station for developing new explosives and testing of different ignition systems is explained ...

Calculation of powerful underwater explosions
Fluid Dynamics, 1974A finite-difference method of calculating powerful underwater explosions using an artificial viscosity is described. An equation of state valid over a broad range of thermodynamic parameters is used for describing the properties of the water. Relatively weak explosions, where the compressibility of the water can be neglected or taken into account in ...

The behaviour of underwater explosions
1966The general characteristics of underwater explosions have been well established over the past fifty years and a general description of both the experimental and theoretical behaviour of underwater explosions is given by Cole [1], Various theories exist for the analysis of successive phases of an explosion underwater, i.e.
