Underwater glider propulsion using chemical hydrides

A novel buoyancy engine for the propulsion of underwater gliders is presented. The research explores the direct volume expansion of hydrogen gas from the reaction of lithium hydride with seawater. As a result the seawater is expelled from the reaction chamber creating buoyancy and consequently also propulsion.

Development of Ray-Type Underwater Glider

Underwater Glider is now the powerful tool for ocean sampling using torpedo shape. Inspired by the manta ray with their effective maneuverability, the ray-type underwater glider is developed with a dual buoyancy engine and a movable mass. The shape of this platform allows for larger payload of battery and sensors.
