MANAGEMENT OF UNDIAGNOSED PERSISTENT PLEURAL EFFUSIONS
Clinics in Chest Medicine, 1998Difficult to diagnose pleural effusions are not uncommonly encountered in clinical practice. We define these effusions as those that remain undiagnosed after initial thoracentesis and repeat thoracentesis with pleural biopsy. Tuberculosis and malignancy are often found to be the underlying causes when a diagnosis is ultimately made, but other causes ...

A Study of Role of Medical Thoracoscopy in Undiagnosed Pleural Effusion
Journal of The Association of Physicians of India, 2023Aim and objectives: To know the diagnostic yield of pleuroscopy (medical thoracoscopy) in cases of pleural effusions which remain undiagnosed after routine initial investigations. To notice the different gross pleuroscopic findings during the procedure.

Diagnostic utility of pleural cell-free nucleic acids in undiagnosed pleural effusions
Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), 2022Abstract Pleural effusion (PE) is a common sign caused by various disorders. Microbiology, histology and cytology are reference standards for these disorders. However, these diagnostic tools have limitations, including invasiveness, high cost, long turnaround time, and observer-dependent.

Medical Thoracoscopy: A Useful Diagnostic Tool for Undiagnosed Pleural Effusion
The Indian Journal of Chest Diseases and Allied Sciences, 2022We aimed to assess the role of medical thoracoscopy in patients with undiagnosed pleural effusion.Patiens presenting with pleural effusion underwent three pleural aspirations. Patients in whom pleural fluid analysis was inconclusive underwent closed pleural biopsy for diagnostic confirmation.

Efficacy and Safety of Diagnostic Thoracoscopy in Undiagnosed Pleural Effusions
Respiration, 2015Background: The differential diagnosis of pleural effusions can present a considerable challenge, and the etiology of pleural effusions varies depending on the population studied. Objective: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of medical thoracoscopy in the ...

[Value of thoracoscopy in undiagnosed pleural effusion].
Zhonghua jie he he hu xi za zhi = Zhonghua jiehe he huxi zazhi = Chinese journal of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases, 2003To assess the value of thoracoscopy in undiagnosed pleural effusion.By thoracoscopy, 114 cases of unknown origin pleural effusion were examined. Abnormal pleurae were biopsied in sight of thoracoscopy and compared with blind needle biopsy for pleurae.Positive rate was 91.2% (104/114) by thoracoscopy and 28.1% (32/114) by blind needle biopsy for pleurae.

Intrapleural Talc for the Prevention of Recurrence in Benign or Undiagnosed Pleural Effusions
Chest, 1994Chemical pleurodesis has become the preferred treatment for definitive management of malignant pleural effusions. The treatment of patients with recurrent benign or undiagnosed pleural effusions, however, remains a difficult clinical problem. Tetracycline has been widely used as a sclerosing agent, but parenteral tetracycline is no longer available ...
