1997In the 1990s unemployment rose to unprecedented heights in Switzerland. Beginning in the summer of 1990, when registered unemployment stood at 0.5 per cent of the labor force, the unemployment rate climbed continuously over the next 31/2 years to peak at 5.2 per cent in January 1994.
