Video prioritization for Unequal Error Protection

open access: yes2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE), 2011
We analyze the effect of packet losses in video sequences and propose a lightweight Unequal Error Protection strategy which, by choosing which packet is discarded, reduces strongly the Mean Square Error of the received ...

Expanding Window Fountain Codes for Unequal Error Protection [PDF]

open access: yes2007 Conference Record of the Forty-First Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2007
A novel approach to provide unequal error protection (UEP) using rateless codes over erasure channels, named Expanding Window Fountain (EWF) codes, is developed and discussed. EWF codes use a windowing technique rather than a weighted (non-uniform) selection of input symbols to achieve UEP property.

Unequal Error Protection SCMA Codebooks

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2019
This paper investigates the design of unequal error protection (UEP) codebooks for sparse code multiple access (SCMA) systems. We propose a joint low-density parity check (LDPC) code and SCMA codebook design approach by incorporating cloud partitioning of codewords in the design of SCMA codebooks with different protection levels.

Unequal Error Protection Techniques Based on Wyner-Ziv Coding

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2009
Compressed video is very sensitive to channel errors. A few bit losses can stop the entire decoding process. Therefore, protecting compressed video is always necessary for reliable visual communications.

Weighted zigzag decodable fountain codes for unequal error protection

open access: yesIET Communications, 2022
By combining bit‐shift and exclusive‐or operations, a weighted zigzag decodable fountain code is proposed to achieve an unequal error protection property.

Unequal Error Protection of Memories in LDPC Decoders [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Computers, 2015
Memories are one of the most critical components of many systems: due to exposure to energetic particles, fabrication defects and aging they are subject to various kinds of permanent and transient errors. In this scenario, Unequal error protection (UEP) techniques have been proposed in the past to encode stored information, allowing to detect and ...

Enhancement of Unequal Error Protection Properties of LDPC Codes

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2007
It has been widely recognized in the literature that irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes exhibit naturally an unequal error protection (UEP) behavior.

Dependency-aware unequal erasure protection codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Classical unequal erasure protection schemes split data to be protected into classes which are encoded independently. The unequal protection scheme presented in this paper is based on an erasure code which encodes all the data together according to the ...

Research on unequal error protection with punctured turbo codes in jpeg image transmission system [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2007
An investigation of Unequal Error Protection (UEP) methods applied to JPEG image transmission using turbo codes is presented. The JPEG image is partitioned into two groups, i.e., DC components and AC components according to their respective sensitivity ...

Decentralised distributed fountain coding: asymptotic analysis and design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A class of generic decentralised distributed fountain coding schemes is introduced and the tools of analysis of the performance of such schemes are presented.
