Uniaxial Compression on Salted Snow

open access: yesTire Science And Technology, 2018
ABSTRACT During snowfall loose snow sticks to the underlying pavement, forming a hard crust that can be difficult to remove. In order to ensure good road traffic safety, winter maintenance personnel use several operations, such as mechanical removal and chemical altering, to keep snow plowable.

Texture development in polyethylene. I. Uniaxial extension and uniaxial compression

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 1989
AbstractTexture development of high‐density polyethylene has been studied by x‐ray diffraction at various strains for uniaxial extension, as achieved by uniaxial tension and extrusion, and for uniaxial compression. Pole distributions were measured for the (100), (200), (020), and (011) reflections.

The Propagation of Plasticity in Uniaxial Compression

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1948
Abstract A theoretical investigation of the mechanism of uniaxial compression impact on elastic-plastic materials is described in this paper. The method of analysis is similar in some respects to that previously given for tension impact on such materials. It is concluded that four different kinds of behavior can occur, depending upon the

Microfracturing of a sandstone in uniaxial compression

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1974
Abstract The development and propagation of microcracks in the course of loading has been investigated with respect to stress level and the rate of straining. Maps of the microcracks covering entire axial sections through the centre of the specimens were prepared and analysed.

Failure of flight feathers under uniaxial compression

Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2017
Flight feathers are light weight engineering structures. They have a central shaft divided in two parts: the calamus and the rachis. The rachis is a thinly walled conical shell filled with foam, while the calamus is a hollow tube-like structure. Due to the fact that bending loads are produced during birds' flight, the resistance to bending of feathers ...

FRP jacketed concrete under uniaxial compression

Construction and Building Materials, 1995
Abstract The purpose of this investigation was to develop experimental data and check the validity of existing analytical models for the behaviour of concrete members jacketed (i.e., laterally confined) with fibre-reinforced plastic ( frp ) materials.

Birefringence Properties of Uniaxially Compressed K2SO4 crystal

Ukrainian Journal of Physics, 2013
The influence of the uniaxial mechanical pressure om < 200 bar on the temperature dependence of the birefringence Δni in K2SO4 crystals in an interval of 300–1000 K has been studied. The uniaxial pressure was found to affect only the magnitude but not the behavior of dΔni=dT.

Plastic Deformation of InSb by Uniaxial Compression

Journal of Applied Physics, 1959
Plastic deformation of InSb by uniaxial compression was found to produce decreases in both the electron mobility and magnetoresistance, but to have no effect on the Hall coefficient. Analyses of the temperature dependence of the conductivity mobility and the weak-field magnetoresistance, in terms of mixed scattering by acoustic lattice vibrations and ...

Uniaxial compressive creep of polytetrafluoroethylene

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1969
Abstract A machine to measure the creep deformation of plastics under uniaxial compressive loads is described. The problems associated with accurate creep testing in compression, primarily the application of a uniform stress to the specimen and the measurement of the resultant strain, receive particular attention.

Uniaxial compression tests of aluminium foams

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2002
Some cellular aluminium materials have been extensively developed and investigated in recent years. The potential for applying aluminium foams in lightweight construction is mainly based on the stiffness and impact absorption. Because of these characteristics, this work is based mainly on the uniaxial compression resistance of aluminium foam.
