Strength Predictions of Plates in Uniaxial Compression
Journal of the Structural Division, 1972The prediction of the ultimate load for rectangular plates is obtained from the intersection of an elastic postbuckling loading path and a rigid-plastic unloading path. The former expresses post-buckling stability and uniqueness, affected by membrane forces and imperfections at large transverse displacements; the latter, insensitive to imperfections ...

Uniaxial compression of kyanite Al2O3-SiO2

The Characterisation of Microcracking of Concrete at Uniaxial Compression
HKIE Transactions, 1995The constitutive stress-strain behaviour a body of concrete material at monotonic uniaxial compression is not linearly elastic up to the instant of ultimate failure. The non-linear stress-strain responses imply that the concrete material experiences slow progressive microcrack growth before the instant of ultimate catastrophic failure.

Mechanical Properties of Concrete in Uniaxial Compression
ACI Materials Journal, 1997Pre- and postpeak response phenomena are examined when cylindrical concrete specimens are loaded under deformation control in uniaxial compression. The experiments focus on degradation of stiffness and strength during unloading and reloading cycles, considering cylindrical specimens of different height.

Uniaxial compression of a circular elastic slice
Computational Mechanics, 1988We show that some asymptotic results can be derived for the deformation of a thin circular slice of an isotropic elastic material. These results are very accurate when compared to a more exact ``boundary element analysis'' and can be used in correlating experimental data.

The rheology of synthetic rocksalt in uniaxial compression
Tectonophysics, 1994Abstract Synthetic polycrystalline halite (rocksalt) has been deformed in uniaxial compression in the temperature range 250–780°C (0.5−0.98 T m ) at strain rates between 10 −3 and 10 −7 s −1 . Constant strain rate and strain-rate decrement, increment and cycling tests have been carried out.

Uniaxial compression of ideal brittle tilths
Journal of Terramechanics, 1975Abstract Synthetic brittle aggregates were made and their resistance to crushing between flat parallel plates was measured. The crushing force was found to vary as the square of the aggregate diameter. Crushing force was used to calculate the tensile strength of the aggregate material.
