Uniaxial compression of kyanite Al2O3-SiO2

Stiffened steel plates under uniaxial compression

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2002
Abstract The stability of steel plates stiffened with tee-shape sections under uniaxial compression and combined uniaxial compression and bending was investigated using a finite element model. The emphasis of the work presented in this paper was to find the parameters that uniquely describe the strength and behaviour of stiffened steel plates.

Uniaxial compression test of frozen tailings

Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2016
Abstract The mechanical properties (uniaxial compressive strength and deformation modulus) of frozen tailings are key parameters for the safety assessment of a tailing dam. However, the experimental data on such mechanical properties are limited. In this study, more than sixty tailings samples with four tailings (medium sand, fine sand, silty sand ...

Buckling instabilities in GaN nanotubes under uniaxial compression

Nanotechnology, 2005
We report experimental observations of shell buckling instabilities in free-standing, vertically aligned GaN nanotubes subjected to uniaxial compression. Highly uniform arrays of the GaN nanotubes standing on a GaN template were fabricated and subjected to uniaxial compression using a nanoindenter.

Constitutive Models for Tuff Masonry under Uniaxial Compression

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2010
The uniaxial monotonic compressive behavior of tuff masonry has been studied by laboratory tests carried out along the directions parallel and orthogonal to the mortar bed joints. Based on the experimental results, different nonlinear stress-strain models have been defined for each loading direction to account for the orthotropy of masonry and to ...

Strain Hardening During Uniaxial Compression of Polymer Glasses

ACS Macro Letters, 2014
The origin of high mechanical stresses in large deformation of polymer glasses has been elusive because both plasticity and elasticity take place. In this work on the nature of the mechanical responses, we carry out uniaxial compression experiments to make simultaneous mechanical and thermal measurements of polycarbonate.

Modeling soil compaction under uniaxial compression

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 2002
Knowledge about soil compaction is increasingly important within agriculture and for environmental protection. The objective of this study is to modify a previous two‐parameter model to generalize it to account for preconsolidation effect. A three‐parameter model for the relationship between soil bulk density and applied stresses during compaction is ...

Brittle crack growth under uniaxial compression

1973
Crack growth due to compression is being studied in photoelastic models and brittle crystalline rocks. It differs from cracking caused by tensile loading in several fundamental respects. Oriented test plates of pegmatite, with a mineralogy and texture similar to granite, enabled direct observations of crack growth during compression.
