Bifurcation in plastic flow under uniaxial tension

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1971
Abstract T he problem of necking in metal specimens under uniaxial tension is investigated by means of the mathematical theory of bifurcation and uniqueness due to R. Hill, with particular reference to the maximum load criterion normally used by engineers. The difficulties encountered with rigid/plastic materials are demonstrated.

Criteria of ductility in uniaxial tension

1961
The merit of reduction-in-area as a criterion of quality in metals is shown to lie in its influence on breaking stress, but the virtue of elongation is not easy to find. In order to assess the value of elongation, either as a measure of quality or as a guide to design, it will be necessary to separate the overall deformation occurring in tension tests ...

Mechanics of coiled nanotubes in uniaxial tension

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2005
The mechanics of coiled nanotubes in uniaxial tension is presented in simple explicit expressions. The estimations for double coils are obtained. Given the initial geometry, good agreement in the whole stretching process (about 30% elongation) is observed in comparison with the experimental result.

FEM Simulation on Uniaxial Tension of Hyperelastic Elastomers

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Modeling large nonlinear elastic deformation of elastomers is an important issue for developing new materials. Particularly, this is very promising for design and performance analysis of dielectric elastomers (DEs). These “smart materials” are capable of responding to an external electric field by displaying significant change in shape and size.

Localization of Microcracking in Concrete Under Uniaxial Tension

ACI Materials Journal, 1994
The localization of microcracks in unnotched concrete specimens under uniaxial tension was studied using acoustic emission (AE) analysis techniques. A new method was developed to locate the source of the AE events. It was found that the AE events started to concentrate on a narrow band of the specimen when the load reached about 80 percent of the peak ...
