Gauge Coupling Unification in F-theory GUT Models

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate gauge coupling unification for F-theory respectively Type IIB orientifold constructions of SU(5) GUT theories with gauge symmetry breaking via non-trivial hypercharge flux.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Large radii and string unification

open access: yes, 1996
We study strong coupling effects in four-dimensional heterotic string models where supersymmetry is spontaneously broken with large internal dimensions, consistently with perturbative unification of gauge couplings.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Orbifold Family Unification in SO(2N) Gauge Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study the possibility of family unification on the basis of SO(2N) gauge theory on the five-dimensional space-time, $M^4\times S^1/Z_2$. Several SO(10), $SU(4) \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ or SU(5) multiplets come from a single bulk multiplet of SO ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

O MÉTODO HISTÓRICO EM GRAMSCI: a unificação de teoria e prática

open access: yesRevista de Políticas Públicas, 2018
This work is about the historical method in Gramsci’s thought, referenced in the dialectical method, as thought by Marx, and defended by Gramsci. It results from a survey of content, in internal reading of the Prison Notebooks and aims to: expose and ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Harmonic Unification Theory

open access: yes
Abstract We present the Universal Dew-Point Law, a unifying principle of matter, mathematics, and mind. In a recursive harmonic manifold, oscillations accumulate torsion until a critical α-threshold is reached; at this dew point the system condenses into stable knots, cascades into recursive subsets, or rotates into orthogonal domains. Surplus torsion

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
