Modeling and Transient Simulation of Unified Power Flow Controllers (UPFC) in Power System Studies [PDF]

open access: yes2007 IEEE Lausanne Power Tech, 2007
The present paper describes the modeling of Unified Power Flow Controllers (UPFC) for studying the steady-state and transient behavior of electrical networks equipped with FACTS devices. Detailed time-domain simulations are carried out on four model power systems (single-machine system and multi-machine systems including the IEEE-14 bus test system ...

Optimal Reactive Power Planning Using FACTS Devices for Voltage Stability Enhancement in Power Transmission Systems

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 6, Page 2720-2756, June 2025.
Series and Shunt Reactive compensation can be used to improve voltage stability. The L‐index and Fast Voltage Stability Index are used to evaluate stability. Cost of reactive compensation is included directly in the optimization process. Multi‐objective optimization determines the optimal sizing of FACTS devices.

MSTMM‐Validated Machining Efficiency and Surface Roughness Improvement Using Evolutionary Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 354-371, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Ultra‐precision machining (UPM) has been extensively employed for the production of high‐end precision components. The process is highly precise, and the associated cost of production is also high. Optimization of machining parameters in UPM can significantly improve machining efficiency and surface roughness. This study proposes an innovative

Volt/VAr Regulation of the West Mediterranean Regional Electrical Grids Using SVC/STATCOM Devices With Neural Network Algorithms

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Reactive power compensation is now a challenging issue in maintaining adequate power quality and improving the performance of the transmission system. Many researchers have focused on the behavior of voltage in the unbalanced state, and the majority of the studies have been done with STATCOM. In this study, the increasing power demand in power
